GOOP WARNING

Post by hazardharry »

i needed to reattach my center D-ring for my thigh straps so i used some goop. plumbers grade goop. well it ate the nylon threads holding the D-ring strap to the patch. the patch and strap sepperated making my repair useless. goop eats nylon!

Thanks for the heads up. I have heard others sing the praises of Plumber's Goop, but I have never been tempted to use it and probably never will. If I ever do, it certainly won't be on D ring patches.

Are you sure that the threads were nylon and not polyester? I know others have not, but I have been quite happy using vinyl adhesives to bond vinyl D ring patches down. Sometimes one lets loose, usually after quite some time, but I just clean it up and bond it back down. I have taken to carrying some alcohol wipes and a small tube of vinyl adhesive with me on paddling trips for emergency use.
