Hi Kelvin,
I am sure someone will firm this up but the dates for this years were the 18th,19th & 20th of May. This is a Swiss national Holiday weekend.
I am sure that the dates which I have written down somewhere are to cover that same weekend next year....The nearest weekend is the 17th & 18th which is again the 3 rd weekend in May.
That sounds right to me,..unless anyone knows better...??

Hmmm...Norway or Switzerland.....

Post by NZMatt »

Hiya Guys,
Sorry that I haven't been on the board much - I'm working way too much this year.
I've started to draft an announcement about the 2008 Armada. I just haven't sent it out or posted it as I want to translate it into French and German and ahven't had time yet. The English is below. I'll set it up as a survey too.

I can't really plan something for Norway, but if someone sets something up I'll try to tie my vacation north into it, since I plan to go north next summer anyway and go tripping. For me the question is where in Switzerland???

Cheers,
Matt

Gudday y'all

1. English / 2. Deustch / 3. Français

Well, I finally actually spent enough time on my computer to correct
this list. Please find attached the new contact list from our Armada in
May this year. (NB: If you want it as a text file, let me know)

I just checked out some of the photos:

(if you have more photos to upload, please let me know!)

This reminded me that we had some fun and started me thinking about next
year...

CBoat Armada 2008
-----------------
22-25 May, 2008

We have 2 options this year. Please send me an email to let me know what
you think and which option you'd prefer, then I'll figure out what works
best, let you all know and make the arrangements.

Option 1: Simme, Saane and other Bernese rivers, using the Kanu Klub
Spiez hut (if <20people...I can't believe we've outgrown the hut!!!
Totally cool!) or based at a local campground. What we did last year,
but hopefully with some new rivers...if the water cooperates

Option 2: Start at the Bregenzer Ache festival on May 22, then move over
to the Vorderrhein area. We'd camp at a local campground, but we would
be able to use the course room of Mit Linx Lernen (thanks heaps for the
offer Joe & Karoline!) down by the river in Versam.

Jetzt auf Deutsch!

Maintenant en Français!

Cheers,
Matt

Hi there, all Euro-C-Boaters,

I support Switzerland, because it's more central. That shouldn't rule out anything else happening in Norway... I'd go there if it would fit with my holiday schedule.

In Switzerland, I support Matt's second option, starting on the Bregenzer Ache and then heading to the Vorderrhein. My reasons:
  • - Some new location for the armada...
    - It's pretty centrally situated.
    - We'd make a good show at the Bregenzer Ache Festival, since usually there are only very few c-boaters. Kayakers would stare openmouthed at the strong armada crowding the eddies.
    - I like both rivers, the Bregi and the Vorderrhein.
    - There would be whitewater for every skilllevel, ranging from easy class II in amazing scenery to big water class III to technical stuff above IV on the tributaries.
    - I love the "Schale" at the paddle-in cafe in Versam station.
More opinions? Let's hear them and discuss them here. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone of you at the 3rd Swiss(Euro) C-Boat Armada!
"A canoe trip?" he said. "There ain't nothing to go down there for."
"Because it's there," Lewis said.
