It may have been a boat used by a lot of folks

Well, since no one responded. If you see me paddling it on the river- I am not the rodeo king. ;-)

I don't know who but this boat says

Post by Wendy »

on the sides of it:
1994 Ottawa Rodeo Winner, 1994 Bob's Hole Winner
93 World Rodeo, 1st, 2nd, 3rd,
and finally 93-94 Ocoee Rodeo Winner
Maybe the Mohawk Viper won all these, not the guy who owned it.
Anyway- I was at NOC just after someone traded it, and snatched it up.
I am very curious- anyone want to guess?
Phil Foti- are you out there?

Speaking out of my arse here, but might it have been Frankie Hubbard?

He designed the Viper, after all, and was into rodeo design at the time (the Skeeter, I believe came out following the 1993 worlds. . .)

Now I'm really curious, too. We should coerce someone who was there to compile an history of OC rodeo.

It may have been Frankies niece or cousin that traded it in... maybe send Eli an email to confirm this.

I paddled the Nantahala this past weekend and ran into a gentleman in a Dagger Caption who was paddling with a Frankie Hubbard paddle. Turns out the guy was Frankie's brother.

howdy Wendy,

just guessing it's a reference to the boat, it would be hard for one person to take a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the same rodeo

and it really doesn't sound like Frankie to "Cobb Up" a boat (one of his favorite expressions) like that...he was all about how his boats looked....to the point of not being seen in something less than 100% show ready

is it a hodge podge of colors... or do the d-rings match or compliment the straps, and the saddle is it a shade that goes with the boat and deck plates...does it say Ocoee Canoe Company anywhere?

Maybe it was Bad Billy's (Davis)...seems like he might of had one like that...he was pretty obnoxious...use to hand out photo business cards, with his picture at the river

Thanks for the feedback- The boat is in mint condition

Post by Wendy »

it even has the webbing yoke which I thought was a lap belt at first. The saddle is now a Mohawk saddle set up, but there is a set of D-rings for thigh straps.
Well, in a few weeks I will take it to the Ocoee. Maybe I will see you there Phil- or give me a shout if you are in town.

More incomplete information

Post by SlovenOC'er »

I have no information about the 94 Ottawa rodeo. But at the 93 Bob's Hole, Frankie and team Mohawk(?) showed up. Frankie did not compete in freestyle, but did do the salom event and pretty much dusted everyone. At the 93 Worlds, Frankie was in attendence as a judge, not a competitor. I don't believe that Billy won either event although he placed at Bob's. He did bring a beater white(?) Viper to Bob's. Put a for sale sign on it after the competion. Sold it to someone there for a few hundred bucks. Just some trivia for you. Geez! Is anyone writting a book about this stuff?

Wendy,

You are paddling my old boat! (and no I didn't win the 94 Ottawa Rodeo, I think I was 13 at the time).

It was a demo boat that my Dad bought from Mohawk for me back in '98 or so. They had all of the rodeo results on the side becasue it was a demo boat. We tried it out at their annual demo on the Nanty and then took it home.

That was a good boat. We sold it to some random guy in 2000 after I got my skeeter.

OC rodeo history

What would it take to commission Monsieur Mason to do a comic history? Could we take up a collection?
