Ive heard that they break there paddles, or hit themselves in the face with them on landing so much that they toss them and hand roll.

That was bad all the way around. Safety was not very high on their list. First, most know that hole would be very sticky, second why were other boater still running the drop while other were stuck, thrid the safety of those trying to rescue was compromised in the effort. Things like this give us that like to run whitewater a bad rap.
