Yellow Blue Hole Sunburst
I found a one owner, stored inside, BH Sunburst with Aluminum gunnels and in my favorite color scheme, yellow.
While I know I am going backwards, that I have other modern boats/c-1's including a Black Fly, on the way, I just had to have this one because my first solo boats was a badly beaten Sunburst that paddled until the bottom final gave way to the Perception saddle.
I cannot wait until the little ones get a turn at this old concept of a white water boat.....
Pray for me..................

Once you get it we want to see photos!
I love that hull. Maybe not for ww but it's a nice general purchase hull for solo paddling, especially for easy rivers.

They worked well on Daddy's Creek, ledges section of the Tellico, and Sinks section of the Little also. Of course, back then, I thought it was a great creek boat.Paddle Power wrote:Once you get it we want to see photos!

Chuck it sounds like fun. How are you going to outfit it? Seats, triple saddle, kneeling thwarts, etc?chuck naill wrote:... BH Sunburst ... cannot wait until the little ones get a turn ...

I am not sure. It has a slat seat with double thigh straps as we used to use.
I remember Juanita Quinn paddling an OCA by turning it backwards with no thigh straps on all the Plateau creeks and rivers.
If the deal goes through as expected, I will post photos.

Yes, I paddled tandem my first trip down the Ocoee with Bill Scarborough (Billy Bob) in the stern of an OCA. One of my favorite runs on that river.clt_capt wrote:ha ha - I'd love an old OCA - talk about old school...

Thanks, it will be an old experience paddling a 14' boat....

Not sure about what the "a" stand for, but seems like I heard it meant "all purpose". Open Canoe All Purpose (OCA) is my best guess. I'll ask Juanita Guinn next time we paddle.
Re: Yellow Blue Hole Sunburst
Actually it referred to the original Bluehole Open Canoe - Open Canoe Aluminum (ie: Aluminum Gunnels) - There was also OC-V for vinyl gunnels.Paddle Power wrote:please remind me, my mind is failing to recall what OCA stands for...

Thanks, that was what I was trying to recall -- Open Canoe Aluminum.

Re: Yellow Blue Hole Sunburst
Well, I have it from the source, Juanita Guinn. The OCA does not mean aluminum. It means open canoe model A. The wooden gunnel was an open canoe model B. There was no vinyl gunneled OCA as I suspected, but did not want to say without checking.

Re: Yellow Blue Hole Sunburst
I've got an OCA on the trailer with vinyl gunwales - it's got decks to fit so I'm pretty sure they are original. Serial number indicates 1986.

Well, I hope we can figure this all out and get to bottom of it.
How do you read the serial number to know 1986?
