Need input for Rapid Article on Best/Worst Boats of all time

Post by RapidMediaTVGuy »

Hey guys,

We are working on an article for Rapid Mag on the best and worst boats of all time as chosen by paddlers and was hoping for input.

If you could take the time to fill out the survey (only the categories you know, don't worry about the others) that would be great. Feel free to let us know if we've missed any that should be in our lists as well (Louie already sent a list of about a dozen that we've added).

http://www.rapidmag.com/features/featur ... -hate.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For your time you can get a one year digital subscription to the magazine for free if you'd like. Just sign up after the survey.

Thanks,

Dan Caldwell

I know mine won't make the "best" list, but I sure hope they don't make the "worst" list.

I think it's important to remember that all of these boats were designed to be "good"

For someone, that Zoom you can't stay in or that L'Edge that's too sluggish or that Viper you can't turn or that Blackfly you can't roll is the perfect boat. For a lot, it's a great boat. For some, it sucks.

I can't think of any one boat that everyone has universally loved or hated. Time has proven that some are just more popular than others

oh brother...

I think Corran once said... "There's no such thing as a bad boat... but there is such a thing as a bad paddler."... or something along that line.

I think most boats voted on from this board will be outliers

The Bass pro shop - mad river Tk14 is a pretty crappy design. Its like 40 inchs wide and is wet as all hades. To top if off, the keel makes it hard to ferry, surf, and navigate through rock gardens

I paddled, and despised, a Dagger XT. As for C-1s, my Perception Sage "Miss Piggy" was really bad.

Survey is too long, too many parts. I have short attention span.

Also the statement about flatter hulls increasing stability shows astounding lack of understanding about hull design.

Sorry, there it is.

I'm not a boat designer (or the one who wrote the statement that astounds you) but I always thought that planing hull boats had better primary stability and less secondary than round bottom? Of course there are a ton of other factors involved but everything else being equal I think the statement to be true. Again I'm not expert though so those on here that are, please let me know!

Hmmm...

So you want boaters on this forum to post their opinions?

This should take a while
