Re: Astral Footwear?

Looks to me like a pair of low top Chuck Taylors would work just as well. L.L. Bean used to have a canvas high top that had a nice toe cover and sticky sole.

Re: Esquif/Mike Yee Outfitting

I'll let you all know if these break. They are red with black pads. Its an '08 model so they've lasted this long.

Re: Esquif/Mike Yee Outfitting

This boat was an NOC demo. They did the pedestal and anchor set up, not sure what brand of anchors and bag cages used, very impressive and complicated cage set up. It is a double knee strap system with adjustable Yakima toe blocks.

Re: Esquif/Mike Yee Outfitting

I didn't really give my opinion in my earlier post cause I assumed it was already outfitted. I love Mikey's outfitting and have put it in several boats over the years. Quality and comfort, plus you can make it as tight as you need to stay put. Honestly, I would hate to have to install all those anc...

Re: Esquif/Mike Yee Outfitting

Must be their own version, but it looks the same as on Mike's website. I first boat had Mike Yee outfitting, and I've paddled the VertigeX (tandem), Spark and Zephyr. The outfitting may look similar, but in my opinion, I much prefer the Mike Yee outfitting. Enough, that if it was a Royalex boat I'd...

How do you read the serial number to know 1986?
Our mid '80's Starburst begins with SRA. Our friends Sunburst begins the same. He has a 17' OCA labeled 17A he told me last evening.

Re: Yellow Blue Hole Sunburst

Well, I have it from the source, Juanita Guinn. The OCA does not mean aluminum. It means open canoe model A. The wooden gunnel was an open canoe model B. There was no vinyl gunneled OCA as I suspected, but did not want to say without checking. :D

Brian,

Not sure about what the "a" stand for, but seems like I heard it meant "all purpose". Open Canoe All Purpose (OCA) is my best guess. I'll ask Juanita Guinn next time we paddle.

Re: Yellow Blue Hole Sunburst

ha ha - I'd love an old OCA - talk about old school... Good luck with the new toy. Yes, I paddled tandem my first trip down the Ocoee with Bill Scarborough (Billy Bob) in the stern of an OCA. One of my favorite runs on that river. :D Thanks, it will be an old experience paddling a 14' boat....

Re: Yellow Blue Hole Sunburst

... BH Sunburst ... cannot wait until the little ones get a turn ... Chuck it sounds like fun. How are you going to outfit it? Seats, triple saddle, kneeling thwarts, etc? Nick, I am not sure. It has a slat seat with double thigh straps as we used to use. I remember Juanita Quinn paddling an OCA by...
