Love it. Paul!
Great pic of me in the hat. Not a great likeness of my wife without da hat, though. . . !

Tell me if I have this correct: OC-1: Feet are flexed, and push against foot-braces, keeping knees jammed into bulkhead/kneestraps. (Works in my Ocoee). C-1: Feet are extended (flat), unable to push against foot-pegs, may be jammed under pegs instead. TGG's concern about getting feet pinched between...

Hey Eddy and Eli The topic has taken an interesting turn -- your comments about 'off-side' rolling invite additional questions from us noobs. See if I have the basic idea: 1. An 'on-side' roll seems pretty straight forward -- from the set-up, the paddle starts on the off-side, and ends up on the on-...

No argument from me on any of these points -- thanks for the insights, folks. However, I wonder if Gord hit the nail on the head when he suggested he might be rushing his set-up too much. When you dump while surfing, ferrying, or crossing eddy-lines, you and your boat aren't travelling at the speed ...

Well, OK -- we've moved past 'what to do when you've tweaked your shoulder' (-- take drugs, go to physio, retire from active living. . .) Now we're moving toward 'how to roll better.' Great! Something more proactive! I know this topic has been featured on previous threads, but personally, I can use ...

Encouraging to hear I'm not the only one who's tweaked a shoulder rolling. I'm no expert, but from instructors / mentors, the word is clear -- if you hurt your shoulder, your technique needs work. A good roll is done wit da hips, not the arms. It's all in a good hip-snap. When you have rolled 'succe...

Good questions, guyz! We (da wife and I) were only there for five days -- half of the two-week holiday which the rest of the group enjoyed. Todhunter -- my wife did 2 or 3 trips to local plantations, or estates where local wildlife or plantlife abounded. Ond day, when we had travelled for 3 or 4 hou...

I'm happy to plug CRR. The Beaver Club, from the Vancouver area, has made several annual paddling holidays with CRR, and I joined them last March. Fun rivers, great accommodation, wonderful food, skilled and attentive guides, and accommodating staff -- a super holiday. It's worth mentioning that CRR...

Speaking of Playboats. . .
. . . I was looking at a Liquid Logic Vision-56 t'other day. Interesting chines !
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has experience with a V-56 conversion. How does she paddle? (vs how much do you weigh?)
Thanks!
Rick

Hey Chuck While you might find suitable units for sale, ready to install, my experience (living hundreds of miles from big city services) is to rely on the ol' D. I. Y. Manual. And C-1 straps ain't rocket science. Nylon webbing is widely available in bulk, in a variety of widths (and funky colours.)...

(Hm-m-m. . . I've been warned to stay on topic. . .) Chris -- your reasoning is sound -- the V-11 is much closer to the Probe than would be the Ocoee. But if I can make the switch from a V-12 to the O, you should have no problem. You would quickly adapt to the lesser secondary stability of the O, bu...

UnLikely comments. . .
The metropolis of Likely, BC, was the venue for the annual UnLikely Paddlefest, held this weekend. An estimated 70 boats participated -- mostly kayaks, with a few inflatables, some new-fangled stand-up boards, and 3 lonely C-boats (a Viper 12, an old Cascade, and a Remix conversion.) Paddlers came f...
