Is cracking also an issue on PE boats with wood gunnels?? The answer to that question is important to me as well. Particularly since I am expecting delivery of a new short red wood-gunnelled polyethylene boat from Esquif within the next couple of months. Anyone able to respond to this? regards dave

It's worth mentioning that CRR puts on excellent side trips for non-paddling spouses while the river-bashers are doing their thing. Rick - care to expand upon this? What kind of trips? If I ever were to go, taking the wife would make life easier, and while she would probably like to raft once or tw...

I have the same GPS as you. I use the Topo Canada maps found on this site: http://www.gpscentral.ca/accessories/mapsourceustopo2008.html There is a US version that would likely be similar. The Canada version has some great maps with full coverage of the entire country. Excellent value for your $. ch...

The position of your centre of mass is more important relative to the ease of rolling your boat than is the location of the attachment points.

Sorry OC-E, not really in a position to buy another boat at the moment. Was more interested in what kind of value you were placing on your boat, as I will be keeping an eye out for another boat later in the year.

Would you sell rather than trade? If so, what would you ask for it?

Some of the races include portages (short ones). Would I omit the center bag for those races, or do people carry the boat other than on their shoulders in those circumstances. Thanks for all the advice; this board is great! if you're racing tandem, you could both carry the canoe during the portages...

In a large tandem, you can usually only fit about 32" (+/-) end bags. This doesn't give you a whole lot of flotation if the center of the canoe fills with water. I second the advice regarding the centerbag. In my Starburst, we have installed cages for end-bags and for a large centrebag. We have used...

I outfitted my caption with movable saddles so that I can paddle either tandem or solo. Here is a pic. http://i433.photobucket.com/albums/qq58/ice-breaker/IMG_4852.jpg Seems to work fairly well. I have also purchased but not yet installed the Yakima foot braces. I am thinking of adding an additional...
