the hull on this boat is pretty trashed, so new gunnels not a good option
yeah, i know, get a new boat. I have one but am trying to delay the onset of its eventual demise, ie., paddling it!

What is the best glue for repairing shattered wood gunnels?
Running Boxcar Falls on the North Fork of the French Broad today I hit the river left wall with the tip of the bow of my canoe, right at the deck plate. The energy traveled all the way back through the gunnels and shattered them in three places, including tearing out a section of the interior gunnel...

Thank you all for your answers
When asking about the chine, I was actually referring to the edge on the bottom of the boat and wondering how soft or hard that is. The knife-edge all around the boat is obviously very sharp. I would like to try one sometime — on something deep and easy!

NateOC I'm a bit confused by your question
Sounds like you are rolling with the thumb on your T-grip hand pointed toward your stomach. I learned to roll with my thumb pointed out, toward the bow of the canoe. With the low brace roll I do, you come up on the non-power face of the paddle. That is not a problem as long as I use a flat blade, bu...

Question about glass slalom race C-1s
I have never paddled a glass race boat but I enjoyed watching some of the Canadian national ww team train= in them Monday at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte. I know there are slalom racers on this board and would like to know some things about these boats: How long are glass slalom ...

What jnorto01 describes is how I've always rolled
I have seen people sweep and then flip the paddle blade which doesn't make much sense to me. If you follow his instructions and cock the wrist of your shaft hand down as you sweep around under water it will automatically drag your blade to the surface which is where you want to start your roll. I th...

Long shot, but anyone on this board from Charlotte NC?
I am headed down there to check out the US National Whitewater Center Monday and would love to hook up with a local open boater or C-boater to show it to me. Send me an email at jahmetz1@earthlink.net if you are interested. Water will be on from noon to 1:30 p.m. Any thoughts from anyone else who ha...

Thanks guys...Can't wait to meet you at Single Sticker Fest
Now another question. What is the best source for Voyageur or Harmony air bags? I have a pair of Harmonys in my Superfly and they have held up OK except for some leakage around the hoses. I would be willing to spend a little more for some Voyageur nylon bags if they would last and since their stuff ...

Help end my floatation nightmare!
Air bags are the worst thing about open boating. I have had nothing but trouble with the ones I have bought, especially the ones made by a company called Headwaters. The seems bust or they spring leaks and they are cheap and worthless, but cost an arm and a leg. Any good sources for open canoe air b...

Sounds like a plan
I want to bring at least two of my seven-boat fleet for this thing, the Superfly for play and the Outrage for outrageous and bigger water. Can we also sleep in this warehouse? And one more time, what are the dates?

Try this....
I have used Gorilla Glue to fill voids and it does a very nice job of replacing foam in those areas. If possible, drill a hole from the inside of the hull to avoid going through the outer vinyl layer. However if you already have a tear on the outside, you can shoot the Gorilla Glue in that way. The ...

Let me add however that if you are used to the Ocoee you
will probably want to get something else with an edge, as going back to a rounded hull may seem unresponsive. So once Mohawk starts making the new boats a viper would be a good choice. Or keep beating up your Ocoee and just get a new Bell version for racing.
