Re: k/c 1 remeber that dude
Yep, John is right: it was Ron Lugbill. The experiment was referred to as the "Kneeliac"; given the K-1 hull design I think it was plenty unstable, and quick flips generally tend to produce quick rolls. Actually Ron was a promising K-1 before Jon got into paddling and thus led them to paddle C-2 and...

Re: Cataract surgery -- any TOG's have implants??
"After lens replacement your distant vision should be in the 20/20 ballpark.". The description is text-book nice but has any actual living boater had this surgery and gotten a desired result? A reported outcome experienced in "real life"? The question is what are actual real world results (if any) e...

Cataract surgery -- any TOG's have implants??
Any contact-lens wearers have experience with (or expectations of) cataract surgery?
What is the likelihood for decent distance vision with implants, "specialty" or otherwise?
Enquiring minds want to know.

Re: Young Adam Clawson and others in '85 slalom Nationals.
Re: 1985 Worlds.. Not generally known, but Jon Lugbill actually tripped & took a fall while running a day or two before the race, beating up his shoulder pretty badly. Despite frantic PT-type efforts, according to those involved he was still feeling the effects at race time but gave it every possibl...

How about this excuse:

Re: C-Boaters with nose plugs?
Guy? Oh, sure enough, it IS a guy behind the rings --- excuse me, I thought it was a pig!!
And it reminds me --
A bit OT, but is anyone else old enough/hard-core enough to recall that you kept a few "pig rings" on hand to use for securing the shock cord when you made your own spray-skirts?

Re: C-Boaters with nose plugs?
I used to used them occasionally, until my first trip to the Gauley. Half way there late Friday night the van in front of us pulled over & the driver, an experienced boater with many Gauley trips under his belt, popped out & ran back to us, saying "I have to go home, I can't go: I don't have my nose...

Re: DC area whitewater
OK, Re-Try: Yes, there are actually rivers named Po: a Po in VA, and also a Po in Europe, perhaps even more elsewhere that I don't know of. But (to my knowledge) there is only one Potomac, affectionately known to locals as " The "Po" ", as in "I'm heading to the "Po". " Just a gentle intro to DC-spe...

Re: The "Po" and the Po(s)
Yes, I know. Hence the quotes: "Po".... a local name of affection.
And as a kid we had to memorize/recite "The Four Rivers of Europe:
The Rhine, the Rhone, the Danube, and the Po..."
Po's are everywhere :-) Maybe not clear from my post tho.

Re: Ok i have a newb question
It all depends (how often do we hear THAT!!)... My own heritage is slalom C-1, and I expect my boat to respond fast & crisp. This means a low, rigid thwart. I also tolerate a modest amount of discomfort, although daily time-in-the-boat tends to breed accommodation. So my personal preference is for a...

Re: MCC Board... We are not all that mean -- surely not to newcomers! There a a few posters who like to jerk certain other posters around -- often over "insider stuff" & frequently going back to the hoary past, over comments/encounters in ancient history. The DC boater community is very large and in...

Re: Need input for Rapid Article on Best/Worst Boats of all
Worst boat?? That's easy: anything that comes with a sit-down seat and a double-bladed paddle. Best boat: For all-time personal fave, I'd pick my SuperBat -- take it anywhere, from flatwater slalom to Grand Canyon. But I guess this mag does't know C-1's exist.... Reminds me of the lady in the office...
