Re: Deformation in a Kevlar hull
It's definitely something to try - going at it gradually should be low risk and certainly less invasive than the idea I had - drill, compressed air, and fill with Gorilla Glue

Re: Deformation in a Kevlar hull
Peter K - there is no deformation on the inside - it's outer layer deflected into the foam layer. Kaz - I'll try that. Cautiously. I thought our SC summer would have done it spontaneously by now :-) [BTW, that Patriot paddles sweetly, especially now that I have a good kneeling thwart in the right pl...

Re: Deformation in a Kevlar hull
From the condition of the hull, I suspect this boat hasn't hit many rocks ever (none at my hands) - no scratches or gouges. Likely had things stacked on it or was stored sitting flat on the ground (but clean). Oh, well.

Deformation in a Kevlar hull
I've got this Kevlar Explorer with some deformations in the hull. The material is stiff and not deformed inside (airex), indicating the foam is crushed in those spots. Any fixing it? I think it does affect handling somewhat - on flat water, it does pull one way more than another. It's not overly dis...

Re: Does anybody know how to decipher mad river serial numbe
I've got a Kevlar Explorer - there is a KA suffix on mine and it does have the Airex foam layers, which reinforces that idea. Mine has some deformations in the outer hull, where there is Airex under, which I'm suspecting was due to a previous owner either storing it on its hull (right side up) or st...

Re: C1 Remix conversion: Seat position
In my conversions I've never ended up significantly forward of the kayak seating position - mainly because my thick legs don't fit very far forward in a tapering, keyhole cockpit. It makes buying skirts easier. I've rarely, if ever, felt like I needed to be any further forward than my thighs allow.

Re: Open boat for a bigger paddler
Scott Card (?) , hasn't been on the board in a while, big guy, when i met him at an armada he was probably 275 and paddling a Quake - loved it. Floated him fine, i tried it (225) and really liked it, too.

Re: Changing Sides
I was paddling an Explorer on the lake with my younger son last night and noticed something odd. When paddling on my "normal" side (right) and him on the left - we ran straight with no problem. When we switched (me to the left) and we kept going right (away from my side) - i figured I was overpoweri...

Pictures?
A couple of coats of a plastic spray paint - Fusion is a standard one - is the easy, less effective option.
Gflex resin and cloth (glass or dynel) is the more involved, more effective option.

Re: Grab loop back up
Yep, I've got one of those skirts, too. I modified a previous skirt to match and mentioned in my original post another that tore (repaired, reinforced). I like that this is part of the skirt, not adding a big snagging hazard. If I do it again, I'll do a better job from the get go!

Re: Grab loop back up
He did say he wanted to be an open boater after that and started googling k-1 to oc-1 conversions...
