Re: Mad River Cyclone
What it is, is the OC2 version of the Twister. Fast? Fast, relative to what? As an OC1, it would spin well, but would only be fast relative to way shorter boats. I think it would make a reasonable big-water OC1. Here are the specs: http://www.madrivercanoe.com/content/madrivercanoe.com/assets/page/...

Re: too darned cheap
I have not used the knockdown gunwale system that Ed's Canoe sells, nor have I used that type of modified shiplap joint, but I have a friend who used the knockdown gunwales from Ed's who was quite unhappy with the joints. He assembled them according to directions and the joints resulted in relativel...

Re: Mad River Cyclone
I have the smaller version, the Twister, and I believe PAC does as well. I have not paddled mine extensively but it is fun. The bubble sides took some getting used to for me.

Re: Mad River Fantasy as Tandem?
I think it is too small for a tandem as well. The Fantasy had something of a reputation of being a wet boat for a larger solo paddler back when. Of course, that was when everyone was paddling boats 4 meters and longer solo. The Fantasy was one of Mad River's earlier solo whitewater boats. They produ...

Re: Bob Foote boats?
The boats that I am aware of that Bob designed, or had a hand in designing were the Dagger Genesis, Dagger Rival, Dagger Ovation, Dagger Phantom, Bell Prodigy, and Bell Prodigy X, Bell Nexus, Navarro Loon 16 and Loon 17, Navarro Egret, Navarro Pursuit, and Navarro Whisper. Oh yeah, and the Esquif Ra...

Re: Removing OLD adhesive on vinylester hull
What type of adhesive are you referring to? Assuming that you are talking about adhesive residue left from minicell foam removal and that it is contact adhesive, I have found that mineral spirits or paint thinner usually works but the solvent may need to remain in contact with the glue residue for s...

Re: Kneeling thwarts
I have wrapped kneeling thwarts with a layer of thin neoprene as John suggested and it does add some padding and makes the thwart a bit less slippery. If you want to remain more or less centered on the thwart, you can cut a couple of blocks of 3" thick minicell of sufficient width to act somewhat li...

I suggest you consider joining the Carolina Canoe Club and attending the Week of Rivers over by Bryson City this year if you are able: http://carolinacanoeclub.org/content/week-rivers-2014" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Although some people cannot abide clubs, belonging to one at lea...

Re: shorten my paddle
I have used ezwater's method to shorten paddles, bonding the T grip back in with epoxy. This typically requires that you shorten the paddle at least 2 inches. I too have been moving toward shorter paddles. I am around 5' 11'' and used 58" long paddles for years. But my left shoulder has been botheri...

Send a PM to 2opnboat1 (Richard Guin) and ask him about replacement gunwales that might fit the Viper.

Re: Replcement gunwales - where do I get them?
Well, have you checked with Mohawk Canoe? They don't have any more Royalex to make Vipers out of any more but they might possibly still have gunwales available.

Re: Black fly option vs esquif ledge
You will find fanatical proponents of both the L'Edge and the Option. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I found the original, fully decked version of the L'Edge a bit sluggish. I did find it incredibly stable, dry, and forgiving, but in my hands, the chines engaged late entering small eddies wh...

Re: What is the Mohawk Shaman like to paddle?
I like the Shaman. The original Shaman was a composite boat which is still made by Hemlock Canoe. I have one (probably the first one made judging by the serial number). It was a 4 meter long boat (13' 2") to meet the existing minimum length requirements for the combined slalom/downriver racing class...

I am rather grateful that I have been denied the opportunity to swim Corkscrew from the top down.
