Re: Time for a New Boat

... repeated story but illustrates the durability well. I took my lighter (RAC) layup FH to a slalom race in Washington State on my way to teach a SRT class. A local river, the Cispus, had a class III+ section I'd paddled before but thought the forest access road was closed. It was open... I did ...

Re: PFD Reccomendations

... here used one or even tried one on?). One other thing to keep in mind is the importance of swiftwater rescue training. Make sure to take a full SRT/WRT course before deploying/using the rescue features integrated into a rescue vest.

... A bag with 70ft spectra ropes covers all the bases, yes it's a substantial chunk of money, but so worth it. Everyone I know who has ever taken an SRT course of sorts switches to spectra immediately afterwards. Buying a poly rope is trying to safe money on the wrong piece of gear. TGG!

... that, given that what ACA instructors are supposed to be guiding on is pretty limited. The WRT is supposed to bridge that gap, and compared to the SRT it's probably best described as quick and dirty techniques with minimal gear (or whitewater rescue in the alpine style maybe?)... but as a professional ...

There really is no substitute for the Rescue 3 WRT/SRT Unit 1 courses... (Rescue 3 considers them equivalent, and both are valid for moving to SRT-Advanced; but only the SRT Unit 1 is NFPA recognised as the WRT is focused on Boaters/Guides and cuts ...

... boating gear. A bonus would be having a rescue harness on your PFD, as you'll likely use it for live bait rescues, etc...but I've seen people take SRT courses without it. There is other gear involved of course but a good course provider should have all that (ropes/biners/pulleys/etc.). After the ...

Also a nice addition to a group - if you're a certified SRT or finished a wilderness medicine course, it is going to be appreciated. I personally would recommend to get into a Spark and build some initial ...

Hemlock Canoes / Dave Curtis

Does anyone know what is up with Hemlock Canoes? The site is gone, and I can only find old info on them. I've added some info to the site of past boats they built, designed by Harold Deal, and was hoping to find a few images (SRT, Crossfire, Dragonfly).

... throwlines have popularised spectra ropes which seem to be offering 8mm line with a 35000kN breaking strain and lengths of 20-30m As a guide and SRT, the merits of carrying bags of semi-static canyon line and waterproof static line (the latter requiring floats as it's not buoyant) have been demonstrated ...

The Hemlock SRT is about the same size as the Osprey and IMO does not attain as easily. If you expect to do a fair bit of poling ask Kaz about his Ed Hayden boats ...
