Re: Soul Waterman's Fanatix
That looks pretty good. Might be kind of weird though not getting hassled by kayakers for paddling an open boat. Lol

French Broad Near Hot Springs
I was hiking the AT near the NOC take out in Hot Springs and saw a couple open boaters taking out there. I'm just passing through w/o boats and would like to know about this stretch of the river. I noticed that there was a wide river right keeper hole near the end there at least at this river level....

Re: Time for a New Boat
Time for a new/another shout out to my favorite boat builder, Empty Canoes (formally MT Canoes). I am a rather biased spokesperson but John Gallagher builds great canoes!! I am a long time fan of the Dagger Ocoee and Caption designs. I have owned 1 Caption and 2 Ocoees in plastic (both history) and,...

Re: Time for a New Boat
Lots of great open boat designs out there, including newer ones folks are mentioning. If you want Ocoee you might want to give Andy Convery a call at Echo Paddles... if he's still making his "Echoee" I suspect you'd like it; though not ABS it is very durable in my experience (I have one). I'm not fa...

Re: Time for a New Boat
The Ocoee is a fantastic Frankie Hubbard design, albeit a bit dated now. Erik, it might be helpful to expand on other reasons why you love the Ocoee. If you want a newer style design and plastic hull in a solo open canoe that turns well, you are in luck and have several superb options all in plastic...

Time for a New Boat
Hello All, My Ocoee is finally at the point of needing to be replaced. I am a kayaker but like to canoe a few times a year on some of the easier rivers in my area (Lowe rogue, umpquas, Klamath). I have only ever paddled the Ocoee and boy do I love that boat and how it turns, which I attribute to the...

Re: Repairing Canoe Floatation bags
I have successfully used Toobseal to seal off several air bags with a bunch of pin holes. Open the dump valve, pour some Toobseal in the bag, close the dump valve, inflate the bag and then start spinning the air bag in all directions for about 15-20 minutes. Now my bags hold air for days again.
TGG!

Knee replacement question
I'm looking at knee replacement surgery in the near future. Has any had this procedure and continued to paddle a C-1 or open boat? Thanks.

Re: SPRAY SKIRTS
Harmony, Mountain Surf, Skirt Works, Snap Dragon. Apparently I own relics of another time! At least Seals is still around (my first skirt, though I don't have it anymore... sold it in the early 90's with the boat). I guess everyone Pak Rafts, open boats and SUPs now. I'd go with IR as they are great...

Re: what to buy what to buy !?!?
Hi! I am new to WW open boat too (since 2019). I have paddled zephyr and tried the L'edge! If you are buying, I might suggest getting the L'edge--more stable than Zephyr and it is easier to catch small eddies with the shorter length. Better yet, if you can find a SuperLite l'edge, that would be gold...

Looking for instruction / feedback: WW open canoe (southern WI)
Hello! I started learning WW Open Canoe in 2019. I am in love with it. I have been taught and given feedback by 2 dear friends who are ACA instructors and C1 Slalom racing athletes. I also received a 3-day private instruction at NOC last month--it is greatly beneficial. I realize that there are some...

Re: Thigh straps vs lap belt pros and cons
You can probably find some relevant information using the search feature. I find that thigh straps work better in Open canoes than Decked boats. And that lap belts are better at keeping my butt secure to a C1 saddle. The main difference is my OC1s all have foot pegs whereas my C1s don’t. I glue a th...

Recommendation for river runner C1
I’m looking for a boat to convert to c1. It needs to be something I can comfortably run up to class 4 in but still have the ability to stern squirt and basic surfing/flat spins. I have access to a dagger atom but haven’t tried it out yet. Also not sure of the capabilities of that boat. Open to any s...

Re: New Rigging?
my body would appreciate more comfort if there is such a thing. What part of you is uncomfortable? For me, on multi-day trips with long days in the boat (either decked or open), I take a 3.5"-thick block of minicel which I sit on (on top of my pedestal) for the flats and easier whitewater sections....
