Ride needed - Ithaca NY to Apex, NC

OK - I just sold my last kayak. Now I need to figure how to get it down south. Anyone heading south after the Hudson Armada maybe? Someone from down south coming up for Moosefest? Let me know...time for this baby to go! He...he...he now I can buy another canoe. :)

West River

Wow! I should have come over. Of course, I was stuck in the lab all evening so escaping would've been hard. The West is a really fun river...it was my first class III in a kayak (before I even learnt to roll) and I've been back to it many times since - including a run in a Topo Duo with one of my be...

Great video!

..and a nice boof too! Quick question - do you always turn as you boof? I've been trying to figure out boofing with a single blade for some time. I haven't had too much trouble on small ledges boofing over holes, but for bigger drops I've nearly always ended up landing with a lean away from my paddl...

Buckles and Repairs

Hi Guys Thanks heaps for your thoughts and support. It always helps to think things out to discuss them with other folks. To answer some of the questions posted: KNeal - yep I owe David big time, but offering him a six pack while he's teaching a bunch of teenagers didn't seem like the right move. I ...

David

I didn't catch David's last name, but he was about 5'8" I'd guess and yes, a really nice guy. Hair colour...I thought it was blondish, but I didn't see it for long and I was somewhat stressed. I may have been mistaken. Where did you get those airplane seat buckles from? Those are meant to be the bes...

Ottawa: Fun, Friends, Boat Destruction and Near Misses

First off....Adam, don't worry, it wasn't the Groove. :) Secondly, whenever something significant happens, part of my processing of the event is to share it with others. This allows it to serve as a lesson or warning, and also helps me get my head around the issues. Near misses are important lessons...

Anyone from NY or nearby going to Gauley?

Hi Guys I can't make it down to Gaulye Fest this year, but I'm buying CosmikDebris' Acrobat and need a way to get it from Gauley back to somewhere near Ithaca, NY. I'm also going to be at Sir Adam's Hudson Armada, so I could also grab it from you then. I'd really be psyched if someone can help me ou...

Paddle Length

I had the same question two years ago when I was just starting to paddle an open boat. I heard about the whole "to the chin" method, but that's really long...and I find if my paddle is too long then my shoulder aches.... I found a description on the rapid mag website...not sure if it's still up, but...

I'd also probably recommend the Forplay over the medieval....I've seen a few medievals for sale here as C1s and they don't seem to sell very well. I've also heard many people rave about the Forplay as a C1. I converted a Bliss Stick Blitz Special using an old Perception Gyromax saddle and it wasn't ...

Longer Creekers

If you're looking for older style longer creekers, Prijons and Eskimos would probably be your best bets....they actually still make some of their older designs, unlike most companies....and used they're generally really cheap. Their plastic is also totally solid so they take the abuse of creeking re...

Kevlar Skid Plates

Hi Mike It's a fair bit of kevlar, but that's not the weighty part...that'd be the resin. I haven't so far noticed a difference in the handling of the boat beside the fact that the rough surface of the kevlar reduces slide on seal launches :) I didn't buy commercial skid plate kits...I bought a yard...

If it's wear on the chines on an Eqsuif you're worried about - I've added kevlar skid plates to mine....then again I'd actually damaged the royalex, not just worn through the paint....still after two years of hard paddling on a boat that was a demo to start with and my first OC to boot, I figure tha...

Delirious

Gudday I've paddled one of these before as a kayak....back before my conversion :) At 150lbs I found it pretty edgy until I got used to it, but since then I found it great. Of course, the first thing I ran in it was the Lower Yough at about 6 or 7 feet. :) I've since paddled far edgier boats...but I...

rivers rivers rivers....so many rivers os little time

Let me think now....I've been paddling about 5 years and in that tiem have paddled in many different places, mainly in the NE. What've we got here....I think about 37 (add another 10 if multiple sections of the same river count independently) rivers, 8 states or provinces and one river in New Zealan...

Paddling in WV this weekend?

Howdy All I'm going to be in Elkins, WV this weekend and was hoping to boat atleast one day. Only thing is, I've never been down to these parts before with a view to boating? Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone feel like paddling this weekend? An ideal trip would probably be class II/III and then Jo...
