Re: The "Shacho"
I've never seen this technology - I understand that the boat is made seamless, one-piece, with two-piece mold flush joined in the middle like molds used for metal casting, vacuum bagged - am I right? If so, how do you make the mold halves join really flush? Do you apply some putty to the mold or do ...

Re: C-Boaters with nose plugs?
Found another good knot. The buntline hitch is the same as the four-in-hand knot used for neckties, although it looks different.FullGnarlzOC wrote:I often find that the knot comes loose on my nose plug tether... what knot should I be tying? Nose plugs are expensive!

Re: Thinking in advance--next boat for me?
There is no such thing as too fast boat. Any boat allows you to go slower but only some allow you to go faster. And faster is safer anytime you are heading somewhere you did not intend. In fact, faster boat can travel slower in relation to the obstacles, because it is faster upstream as well. There ...

Re: C-Boaters with nose plugs?
I often find that the knot comes loose on my nose plug tether... what knot should I be tying? Nose plugs are expensive! I don't know how you tie it, do you put a loop on each end of the string? A figure-of-eight loop holds quite well when wet. A bowline secured with single or double overhand knot i...

Re: C-Boaters with nose plugs?
I do bubble air out my nose when taking a bath, though :D That's good practice. Helps to build muscle memory. :D I just need both hands to wash my hair and this is the easiest way :D But many things unrelated to canoeing can be made canoe-friendly, like trying to roll an air mattress in a garden po...

Re: C-Boaters with nose plugs?
That's what I'm afraid of: getting too used to the nose clip and starting to need it. But I started using one for decked C1 as I found that my roll is quite doubtful if I snort a shot of cold water. I assume it would get better even without the nose clip, as most of my canoeing experience is from op...

Re: Chrome L'edge! Sweet ride.
Vacuum chrome plating. It's not a simple process that can be done at home, it is done in a large vacuum chamber by evaporating the metal. But I'm quite sure I've seen some kind of paint that looks almost as if the thing was chrome plated. Neither would last on a whitewater boat but it could be fun. ...

Make denim airbag protectors
And if you put a black stripe on it, it will look like an aircraft from the 50's - look at the F-86s

Re: SUP! (Stand Up Paddleboarding)
Well, visually it's not that different from early 80's slalom C1s, except you stand on it My cousin has a board, I'll have to borrow it and get something to extend my two-piece paddle. If you can do pivot turns on it, it can't be that bad, and I have no problem with looking silly.

Re: SUP! (Stand Up Paddleboarding)
SBroam is right: Get a SUP paddle or a long regular one and use it in your traditional canoe. Once you get the hang of it, it's possible to tackle easier whitewater this way, with much better view, longer reach and more fun. For sport paddlers it's yet another way to run a rapid you have grown out o...

Re: wrsi whitewater helmets
There is one thing much cooler - I know a guy who uses a helmet worn not by Imperial Stormtroopers but WWI Sturmtruppen (M1916 Stahlhelm) :D Of course he uses it only on easy water just for the looks, but I think that it might be fun to take some ballistic helmet (for example the Nazis used one - th...

Re: kneeling thwarts
The only hinged seat that I currently use is in my C1. It's a bucket that needs only a limited amount of motion for safety, so it's basically loosely bolted in, sitting in a cradle that locates it. The design is not appropriate for an open boat. Both my OCs have the same bucket, rigidly mounted. Th...
