I use an iPhone app called RiverGuide. Sorry no link because I'm on my iPhone now and can't get URL's in my browser without just being referred to my app store app. It works well and can store a list of favorites for quick checks. I find it faster than checking on my home pc. My only feature request...

Yes, my Norse would be my paddle of choice for digging fire pits, shoveling snow or charging into battle with William Wallace. My Norse also has a role in the emergency bear-in-the-camp contingency plan (after trying to act natural and move away from the bear but before trying to outrun it). It also...

Is this material anything like Rec'Repair? http://www.recrepair.com/ I have used this stuff for small repairs on tandem Royalex canoes and it has bonded well and done a nice job. I carry a piece of it when we go tripping as a part of the emergency repair kit also. It is expensive but versatile stuff...

I bought one if the New Norse paddles last year. My experience with it has been mixed. Mine is a bit differnt than the original in that it has a skypole (fiberglass) shaft instead of the traditional dynel covered alluminum. He (Don) can make several different blade sizes and shapes, mine is a slolom...

I am interested in the challenges of a kids WW boat also. I have an almost 4 year old who wants her own boat already (she is not getting one for a while yet). Soooo, here is my plea, if anyone has experience with getting kids into their own boats and what those boats were please chime in. What boats...

Clarion pointed something out to me a few months ago that I think is valid to this discussion. He has observed the tendency for the more experienced canoeists to sometimes forget what it was like to start out. This becomes apparent in this discussion because for many the idea of paddling a Raven is ...

A lot depends on the paddler...... I am in the process of learning in a bit of a challenging boat and that is good for me. There are days that I might wish for a more forgiving boat to go run something a little more challenging without swimming but what I have will make me better faster. My wife is ...

Canoe Owner Found
Ok, so my paddling partner for the day went through a drybag that was with the boat and found a set of STAFF sweats with the name of YMCA in Maryland. He googled it and called the Y and from that found the son of the owner who had been paddling his dads canoe. I guess that there were two canoes runn...

Check out ebay for used Kokatat Supernova suits. They are "semi-dry" suits because they have a neoprene neck gasket instead of a latex one but they sell for around $300 slightly used in Tropos fabric, breathable fabric that seems inferior to Gore-Tex but ok for a few seasons, based on the reviews. T...

Yep, the boat was a bit below The Dreaded Owasee Rapid (1/4 mile ish). Not much to it but the water level was almost 6' Friday. It is the classic place for canoes to flip. It would be fun to hang out some spring weekend with nice weather and watch the red neck carnage as they flip their overloaded C...

This was on Pine Creek PA. I talked with the local Outfitter today and they will notify dept of Forrestry locally, which they said was the normal procedure for such things there as it is all PA forrest land surrounding that part of the creek. Also, normally the outfitter is the first pace folks call...

I am attempting to contact some authority's. As far as the paddlers, the bike trail had traffic on it, even yesterday in the cold and rain and it runs along the rive the whole way. There were also folks camping about a mile down stream, so if they survived the swim they would have been found. The bo...

The Moral Delima - What to do with a canoe found pinned
Ok, this is a general river etiquette question...... Found today on a local class II river, OT Discovery 174 (in nice shape) lightly pinned to a rock. There was a dry bag with clothes, a life vest and a floating cushion stuck in it and nothing else. There are no names or registration stickers and no...
