It's also cool to see Isaac wearing the #1 jersey and doing so well also. Who is Mike Dawson (the guy who won and beat Isaac)? Is he a Kiwi? Or a Brit?

Looks like Benn paddled off Gorilla during the race with that broken paddle, and then finished the bottom section of the course like that! How far up did his paddle break? That is some bad luck, but great skill to continue on with it like that.

Thanks for the responses. Those Tevas look good, but I'll have to check out the Walmart shoes as well.

Man, the local boaters would eat that up if one of you guys ran the North Fork in an OC-1. You would drink for free that night (actually, scratch that, raft guides have no money). They rarely see canoes (C-1s or OC-1s) out there, even on the Main or South Fork, let alone the North Fork, so they thin...

C-1 footwear?

Hi everyone,

While I have been going barefoot or in rodeo socks for a while the last few years, it's time to get some real shoes again.

However, I need something flexible and low-profile enough to wear in a C-1.

What do you folks recommend?

Local boater JB Seay has posted some pictures of Flatliner Falls which show the pin spot on river left and which discuss some of the other current hazards on the Upper B:

They haven't said yet what happened, but there's a notorious pin spot on the left side of Flatliner. Actually the drop got its name from a near fatal pin there on one of the first descents. In my experience Flatliner is one that is both hard to point out to first-timers and also easy enough for even...

Hi Wayne, I ran the Middle Finger once at 3.8 and it was freakin awesome. It was a HUGE boof -- I was amazed that I didn't: A) actually land against the cliff face 100 yards away at O-Deck, or B) immediately break my back on landing. Needless to say, moves like that are never caught on video . . . I...

Hi Wayne,

Yes, I noticed the edit -- but no matter . . . sometimes even "coaches" get things "backwards" . . .

Hi Sam, I think you're right about Virginia side being a good place to start. Either there or low (below 2.7) Maryland side. I'm not actually sure if anyone has ever open boated the Center Lines. In fact, I've never actually seen anyone open boat any line on the Falls. A lot of folks C-1 the Falls (...

Sam, That is certainly a worthy aspiration! On my first Great Falls run, I was determined to experience it to the same fullness that the first descenters (who included one C-1) did . . . I pre-scouted from shore ahead of time, purposely didn't watch others run first, and when I finally went there wi...

Craig, sounds like you have done great work here. I have heard only good things, and this review from Dooley puts it over the top -- I think this is going to be a big seller for Esquif!! I have to try it!!
