I've heard from people who've paddled them for years that the wood gunneled Outrages are drier and handle better. I think MikeyB's post makes sense. Wood needs more care but if its stored indoors (garage) , not much more than reoiling every year or two

Plant your paddle way up front, like a stick in the mud. Then bring the boat forward with your hips and thighs. Keep it short, and up front

I was actually able to use/abuse my composite Hooter for 15 years before handing it over to a newbie. Did repairs every year or two with no substantial weight gain. Maybe 1-2 lbs max.

The bulb grease is supposed to help(autopart store) per Sqeakyknee. Im gonna try it as the inside parts of the plug is hard to clean. The water doesn't bother it, just the green stuff on the copper connectors

The symptoms you describe (won't fire up; fiddle with it,then it works for a bit,etc...) was what mine was doing. I cleaned every accessable connection, then it seems to work fine. I still inspect and clean it regularly to keep the corrosion at bay. I'm gonna try that bulb grease on the connections ...

Got a Detonator for creeking; seems to be predictable, stable, fairly dry, almost as nimble as a Zoom. It front surfs very well; not quite as good on a side surf as a Zoom. Boofs nicely too. It accelerates well;not much of a glide on the flat though, but I got it for steep stuff, not flat stuff.

Pump Owners........

Does anyone use an anti corrosive gel treatment on the connectors? If so, what?,and does it help on salt water too? I don't want to make the corrosion worse by taking it to the local tidal surf spot.

The rule I like to go by is: While in your boat in paddling position, the blade should be in the water and the t-grip should come up to your forhead. Then modifiy slightly longer or shorter for comfort.

To keep the speed up ,paddle up front using cross forward stokes and forward strokes. Keep them short and up front, you can increase the power and stroke rate; not the length of the stroke. This should help minimize corrections, but if needed keep them quick, so as not to lose momentum

Kaz may have some tips, He posts on this board sometimes, or you can contact him at Millbrook Boats. As mentioned before, trim it out in wood, its light and much more good looking than vinyl. I paddle a smaller version, Hooter. It's great! I can only help with approx locations due to the size differ...

catching waves on the fly

While you seem to be paddling much bigger volume than I do, I too think that mastering the inner circle will help greatly. Then when you see a wave downstream, accelerate towards it from aside(almost like approaching an eddy), then using your momentum, carve onto it using only forward stokes. Any co...

I dont know what kind of outfitting the boat has, but; if you have thigh straps/ toe blocks, see to it that you can push with your toes just enough to keep some tension on the thigh straps, while keeping your butt on the saddle. This should allow you to brace better, as well as set up to roll withou...

Weak Side?

Ditto to Martins post. I can only paddle on my weak side decently when I'm tandem, then it's only marginally acceptable. Sorta like switching hands for handwriting or eating with a fork and knife; its messy.
