Finally!
After a couple months of wrangling and a month of waiting patiently for me while I was away, I finally got my L'Edge yesterday...now I just need to find someone to help me figure out how to paddle it.
Anyone around Worcester Mass, want to come swimming with me?

Re: Finally!
beardedcanadian,
If I were still in that area, I would love to go paddle. If you want to do some pond work in Arlington on Sunday, August 19th, I'll be in Boston with time to kill. (but no car, hence it has to be close to the T)
I never did hook up with the Boston AMC paddlers, but it sounds like they do classes on a a few times per summer.
If you can make the ZOAR 2 day clinic that happens in a week and a half, I promise you will get lots out of it: http://safe.zoaroutdoor.com/express/res ... F01%2F2012" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Finally!
Hey Shep,
I checked out the Zoar program, but it may be a little to novice for me...I have lots of experience tandem boating on expeditions...I may end up doing something at MKC in Ontario, since i need to head up there at the end of August, but I may do both.
I would love to get some pond time in Arlington. I will PM you my contact details.
BC.

Re: Finally!
If it is a small class, which I expect it would be, they can easily tailor it to you. It's worth calling ZOAR and talking to Janet, if she is available. She is their head of guiding and instruction, and was my Instructor Trainer when I got certified. They generally use the Fife Brook section of the Deerfield, so while thye state that they take people on a Class I/II river, you do have the option of running the Gap at the end.
Hope this helps,
Shep

Re: Finally!
I'm doing the Zoar clinic on the 11th/12th, and I'm not an absolute novice, either. I've been kayaking for years and I've messed around in tandem and solo canoes a few times this past year. I'm doing the clinic because I want to start canoeing more seriously, and I thought some good instruction was in order before I developed any bad habits.
I'm hoping they're flexible about everyone's progression.

Congrats
I'd suggest taking a private lesson with Kaz if you want to really master the forward stroke... he's pretty darn close to you.

Re: Finally!
Shep,
I am pretty familiar with the Deerfield and paddled with Zoar when I first moved to the US (didn't know about the forums and had no one to paddle with). They are great. I met Janet a couple times. I sent you a PM, let me know if you got it.
Craig,
I am super excited to get it on the water. I sent Kaz a PM as well... I have some friends that work at MKC in Ontario and I will be leading some trips up there this fall so I am hoping to head out with them on my days off...
Chris...PM me if you want to paddle, I may be up for taking the course next weekend if I am not working.
I just want to paddle.

Re: Finally!
I live in Cambridge and would love to get out sometime. When my wife and I got married this spring, our friends gave us an Option and an Ion as wedding presents, so we've been having a blast on the water when we have time. Definitely still learning as well, so would be happy to learn with someone else.
Just sent you a PM with contact info.
PS> When the water's so low, don't forget about ocean. I took the Ion out to the beach when the surf was a little bigger a few weeks ago and had a blast! Plenty of roll practice...

The MVP and AMC Boston paddlers are great canoe paddlers and have great websites with their activity listings. Have fun!

Re: Finally!
NHAMC is running a class III clinic with zoar in september at a discount to zoar price. Also the lower winni running at 260 is very challenging class II-III run at that level and it run most of the summer right now it is at 240 and probably still runnable. It is a short run you can park at the take out and walk the bike trail back to the put in. The run is very technical at this level so it is a good place to practice and it can be run multiple times. In high/normal it is class 3/4
