C-boating Armada, C-squirt championships- Pictures + VIDEO

Post by markzak »

What a great weekend with the C-boating community for the 2011 Cboats Armada. Thank you all for a great time!

Here's a quick video edit. I apologize for the crudeness of the edit and the music and lack of more footage and for not cutting in more pictures... but you know where to find the pictures and you can thank iMovie for the rest of the video cheesiness. And thank my girlfriend for putting up with another night of me sitting in front of my computer.

Friday, my crew got down around 2pm to meet the crew getting off the Meadow Creek, which is a steep, short tributary to the Lower Yough. We then visited Paul Schreiner at PS Composites. After a great time with Paul and picking up the C-squirt trophy and 2011 C-squirt "most fun" plaque, we were off to visit Jim Syner of JimiStyx. Saturday, we all hooked up for a C-run of the North Branch of the Potomac featuring some glass boats, OC1s, C1s and Ocoee Chapelle, 11 year old in his second day in a C1. Pics here: https://picasaweb.google.com/mzakutan/2 ... MDWV43011#

Half-way down the North Branch, we switched into Squirt boats at the Blue Hole parking lot area and commenced the Squirt Championships of the Known Universe(s). Great times by everybody and even a little down time. Pics here: https://picasaweb.google.com/mzakutan/2 ... ship43011#

Sunday, we split into groups. Some got on the North Branch again, others did the Savage. Mick Knox, Jeremy and myself got on the Top Yough at about 500 cfs plus inflow from Muddy. Pics here: https://picasaweb.google.com/mzakutan/TopYough5111#

That would be the Cedar strip "Stink Eye"

An evolutionary parallel to the Optio,. or so Ive heard. A rare species of boat indeed, Ive never seen one this far from the great lakes before.

@ Gumpy... That would be the Cedar strip "Stink Eye". A couple of us swam out of the stink eyed, aka getting stink eye'd. Its a Michael Bolton creation I believe.

Yep - "Stink Eye" and a few of us got "eyed up" in it (or out of it).

Its a wood stripper / resin coated boat. Surfs real well just a bit differnet to roll do to the build materials (def do-able ...just dif from a plastic boat).

Its sitting with me on load right now... fyi Joe. Mick paddled it most of the day on Sat so he and Mikey B are the experts with it right now.

Great Pix Mark!

Good to C all there!

Thanks for posting the pics! Looks like it was an awesome time. I'm glad some folks got to test out my hot little stripper :D I'd love feedback! I designed it for mostly playability, but not so sure some of my thoughts worked out, but it seems to do pretty good. It's uncanny how the side rocker profile looked so similar to the Option.
I found it interesting that some found it hard to roll. I found it to be easier than my Taureau and quite dry? Sure wish I could've made it!!!!!!!!

Another awesome armada. Conspicuously absent Canadians made the group smaller this year, but the fun was still present. Kalin would have approved of our pace on Saturday.

The video from my helmet cam (Oregon Scientific) was not all that great, but I'll see what I can pull together and make available through facebook. Mark, after reviewing your pictures, I just want to let you know that you are safe for another year.

And Paul. Thanks for the booties. They'll go nicely with the river shorts and 175 foot tie-down strap. :P
