Wuz plannin on doin some sothern boatin this weekend, but job had other plans, like slappin me w/ some mandatory overtime . Oh well, maybe ALF. Upside, finally got some pics stuck somwhere to link 2 -
Well we didn't think you would do the Green in that thing but if you will listen to the lines I tell you I think we could have gotten it down Tellico this weekend.
Though that one boat is a bit short for a tandem by your standards
I imagine it's quite a bit of fun sliding right over a lot of those holes... while inexperienced shortboat folks get worked (note that if I was in a shorter boat, i would be one of them... which is why I like my glass boats with a little length...albeit low volume....).
I'm glad you shared some shots, and do hope we can boat sometime, even if it is a river for all to enjoy (i.e. easy water) like the North Branch.

Used to see nothing but 16 footers on the Tellico - top to bottom, every week, all the time... and we never had on helmets either. Looks safer than old Dick Whooten, who stood up most of the way... even standing upright on you're same diaper-wiper (or whatever'u call it) line.
Show me da pics of the Lower Big Sandy when you run the biggy rapids there in that camper boat. Ya can leave out Big Splat, that's ok I understand. Hahaha
I was curious, how old is your son? I want to get my daughter out there with me in the canoe, but not quite sure of good age to start. She is almost 3, I take her out in our raft, but not sure when to introduce the canoe.
We had them in canoes on flatwater as early as a year - old enough to sit up - and on moving water between 2 and 3, class II whitewater around 4. Had them swimming class IIish at 5 or 6.
Fritz - you're already too late! Get that kid out! At least on class I maybe IIs. Make sure to keep it short & fun. Keep them warm, hydrated and feed and let them play and drag the blade!
Get a vest that fits with the between the leg strap and head lifter (MaeWest) style. I'd use a helmet - but thats me! After the boys near death experience helmets rule in our house (since one saved his life).
Let me know if you need some gear - I might pretty much have most of it in tupperware out in the shed. I gave some to others so maybe they will be willing to re-cycle too.... its all about getting kids into the sport!

Thanks for the info, I need it for reference to insure my wife that it is okay to take the little-one out. I have taken her in a raft down some Class II stuff and she loved it, so its time for the canoe!
I just need to find a good canoe, I am assuming something a little larger than my Detonator. Any suggestions?
PAC-Thanks for the gear offer and advice, would love to take you up on any extra kiddy gear you want to loan out..
