Dagger Rival with the paint coming off
What would make the paint come off a Dagger Rival? It appears that nothing is wrong except the red paint is coming off leaving a translucent look to the hull.
I'm going to assume this is a Royalex Dagger Rival, not one of Kaz's composite versions.
There is no paint whatsoever on Royalex, inside or out. But sometimes the colored vinyl outer layer, the one there to protect the ABS from sun, wears through. And maybe, rarely, it tends to peel off, although in my experience the vinyl sticks very well to the ABS.
So the "paint" peeling off is the vinyl top layer, and what you see underneath is the structural ABS layer. It will have a transluscent appearance, and usually a blue-green color cast.
I just wore the red vinyl off on the bottom of the boat under my pedestal seat. I cleared more vinyl away with a sharp chisel held at a low angle, and then I applied a two-layer concentric patch with S-glass and epoxy. This patch is holding up very well.
Otherwise, you can just paint the bare ABS, or apply 303 as often as possible. The ABS is very easily damaged by prolonged exposure to sunlight.

thanks for the info
It is the vinyl that is peeling off. You can just pull it off with your hand, no scrapping needed. We did paint it and the paint just peeled off as well. Is there a paritcular type of paint anyone can recomend?

Krylon Fusion is a spray paint for plastics. I've used it on about 5 boats in the last year and it is holding up well so far.

delaminating
Hi it sounds like your Rival is delaminating. The very outer layer of the royalex is coming off. There is an expoy like stuff you used to beable to purchase from voyager (not in busi anymore) that would fix that right up. Contact Blue Moutain Outfitters in Marysville, PA and as them what they would recomment. But don't keep pulling the stuff off.
Just my experience with boats that have delaminated.
