Re: So, will one of these Millbrook boats work for my trip?

Look for a used Mad River Monarch - you are welcome to try mine out. If I (sadly) could only have one boat that would be it. It is very similar to the Kruger Sea Wind - it is the Gen 2 hull, and more like the Sea Wind hull than the Gen 1 Sawyer Loon. Fast, forgiving, carrries a big load, integrated ...

Re: I need to demo some Millbrook boats.

Got a Shacho in Roanoke VA you are welcome to try out.

I’ve also got a River Elf Storm Chaser which is even lighter and pretty comfy.

Re: River Elf Storm Chaser M - used - for sale

Still for sale.

Would consider trade for a new Jackson Karma RG (which is worth less than the Storm Chaser but is a boat I’d like for tripping/ocean use).

Once you use a glass boat like this it is hard to carry a plastic boat far.

River Elf Storm Chaser M - used - for sale

I bought this boat a little less than 3 years ago and have paddled it about 6 times. I was looking for a "modern" C1 to replace my trusty Gyramax and wanted to try this one out. It is a cool boat and very nicely built, but it was just not quite what I was looking for. [I've ended up in a Nirvana L c...

C-boat for 120 lb 11 year old to learn - which to pick

My pretty big 11 year old son is ready to learn more of running his own boat (after years paddling a kiddie Thrillseeker following my daughter and me in our Mad River Howler, as well as a bit of time in a surfski in the ocean). I've got several C1s from which to pick for him and am trying to figure ...

Re: Cboat Fire Sale

Bummer about your knees.

Might be interested in the Vadja or Zealot - looking forward to pictures.

Going oc1 or kayak now?

Re: Outfitting my new Nirvana L

I’m continuing to play around with the boat. I’m really liking the hull - good edges for turning, great stability, predictable and speed for a short boat. I tried yesterday with the saddle 4” inside the inner cockpit rim - this appeared to be almost right on the balance point, as leaning forward or ...

Outfitting my new Nirvana L

I've been on the elusive hunt for a new cruising C1 that I like and for regular runs down my local Johns Creek that is reasonably forgiving and comfortable for me at 48. After years paddling wildwater boats and using my Gyramax as my cruising C1, I don't like really slow boats, and most new hulls ar...

Thanks to you both for the information.

It is a very cleanly built boat.

New to me New Wave Grokshark C2

With help from transport from several people I recently acquired a full cut New Wave Grokshark C2 from Matt Kelso. Matt took great care of the boat and it is in great condition. I am adjusting the outfitting some as any good C-boater does with a new hull. In doing so, I've removed the original outfi...

Re: PFD's ...2018...

Your torso shape will matter a lot on which one feels best on you. I tried on a bunch and ended up with a Ronin Pro that I use when on harder rivers - it just fit my body much better than the other options. I still use my old Lotus on easier rivers. I figured if I was on water that was challenging t...

Re: Viper (Frachella) C1 vs. River Elf

They are both C1s but are basically different in every other way, and I have one of each.

Viper is slalom-ish - fast and carves compared to a River Elf, which is shorter, slower, and more forgiving.

Re: "best" tripping boats?

Makes sense about it being the vinyl gunwale version. All the ones I have seen are the aluminum gunwale version and perhaps those were all marketed as Starburst and the vinyl gunwale as Cumberland.

Re: "best" tripping boats?

Aside about the hull name - are you sure that it was really sold as the Blue Hole Cumberland? I've seen that written and repeated multiple places but never seen actual documentation of that. I have several catalogs from Blue Hole that advertise it as the Blue Hole Starburst, and saw many Blue Hole S...

Re: "best" tripping boats?

I can't think of a better all around hull shape than the Blue Hole Starburst for what you are describing. I'd not heard of a Starlight before but it sounds great. I have quite a few miles in a Dagger Legend also - the Starburst is faster and I like it a lot better, but there are a lot of Legend's ou...
