THE HUDSON ARMADA WAS A SUCCESS! Special Thanks to Whitewater Challengers for providing a shuttle-it made the entire day MUCH easier! 8 Paddlers total, only 1 of whom had attended a previous Armada! There are already plans afoot to hold a "fall foliage" armada this fall, and see how many CBoaters can be rooted out of their hiding places in the Northeast Woods!

No pictures, but a lot of fun and memories...especially for one Armada Attendee who swam a few times:)

The Hudson Armada will take place June 21-23 around North Creek, NY.

Some basic information:

Camping: Free Camping provided at the base of Crane Mountain. Potable water and out-house are available.

Food: Those who wish to sample some of Ma Pearsalls Famous Peach Pancakes (and Coffee!) Saturday morning will have to pre-register and agree to the minimal fee of $2 (a great deal, truly!). For the remainder of the time, you're on your own (although there has been talk of Stromboli's at the Pizza place in North Creek...). The Adirondacks are a remote area...there IS NOT a store "just around the corner", although a local will tell you there is (please keep in mind that to us locals "just around the corner" is anything less than a 30 minute drive....) There is a grocery store between where we are camping and the put in.

Tentative Schedule (I'm VERY open to suggestions at this point):

Friday (for those interested in arriving early)
Paddle from North Creek to Riparius, possibly to the Glen (water's looking great!). Saturday
Pancake breakfast at campsite, pack up and head to the River (tents can be left up-we'll be camping on private property). WE WILL NEED TO HEAD OUT by 8am or so, as we need to be on the release from the Indian River. I have arranged a free shuttle so we won't have to worry about it. PLEASE LET ME KNOW if you are interested in attending the Hudson Armada so I can work with some hard numbers....

For those meeting us for the shuttle-9 am at Whitewater Challengers in North River, NY

Boating Hudson Gorge (class III / IV) all day. This is a wilderness trip and will take the majority of the day. Please be comfortable with the boat you're bringing. A competent roll will make the experience MUCH more pleasant. If you can not roll (as in at all, or hardly ever) please plan on boating somewhere else (Sacandaga for instance), as you would not have a pleasant experience. We will very likely have someone with the group who is planning on doing one of the lower runs and has done it before....

There are really only 2 rapids that will be class IV, and it is possible to carry around both of them.

Saturday evening-dinner in North Creek (Stombolis anyone:)?), then C1 videos and / or a BIG campfire at the campsite.

Sunday
Morning-try different boats out in Garnet Lake (5 miles from where we're camping), swap gear and tales, OR paddle North Creek to Riparius OR Sacandaga, depending on water levels.

Afternoon-head home with grins from ear to ear.
