Catawba River under Lake James?

Post by jmatt »

I'm interested in information about the Catawba River where it comes out of Lake James at the Linville Dam Powerhouse--specificaly the run from SR1223 to SR1147. Boatingbeta.com shows weekend releases through the end of October, but I remember some discussion about dam work that was going to affect said releases.

Also, the river is listed as Class I-II. Does anyone know if this is more akin to the Class I-II found on the New River, or the Class I-II found on the Tuck or the Watauga?

Thanks in advance.

fFound this really well done trip report:

Looks a little tame for me, dang it. I was hoping for some good summer and fall whitewater.

Here's hoping for an active tropic season.
