In researching my upcoming trip to Mexico I spent alot of time on the Esprit website. I found this article from Canoe/Kayak of how the owner Jim Coffey has put preservation as a priority for the company.

So... when the question was raised about contributers.... I thought there is room for a modern day activist... I wish Jim and his team success in their battles... and am really looking forward to paddling with them in Feb.

Here is the article. I had never really heard about these guys before but it seems they are doing some things right.

Jesus...

...not only did he calm the water, he could walk on the stuff. Man on man, I've had a need for that before.

Yeah, to answer the question up above, that's a Solito. In good hands, I might add.

I realize this a whitewater forum but, historically, the designer and boat builder who effectively created the sport of canoeing in the US, and dominated it for 40 years, was Henry Rushton.

In modern times, Dave Yost is the most prolific canoe designer. Over the past 30 years, DY has has designed more than 100 successful hulls, including a few WW designs, for quality manufacturers such as Sawyer, Curtis, Bell, Swift, Placid and Loonworks.
