Crazy! I was going to contact Dan and or Jez today about outfitting my new jackson play boat! Now I can just pester the factory!
Re: Pics of Jackson c-1 outftting cooool
That setup looks pretty slick. Kind of like a streamlined Dagger saddle.
Anyone know where to get one and how much they will be?
And how to people feel about this setup for creeking? I'm a little unsure about the adjustable backband.... While it seems like it would be the bees proverbial knees for playboating, I don't know if I wan't those straps near my feet if (when...) I swim.
(I don't mean to start another rant-thread on the relative safety or danger of C1 outfitting in the creek environment. Just curious what people think on this outfit.)
Lastly, who wants to make a C2 dynamic duo with me?!

This allows for very easy and quick exiting of the system if you need to swim by releasing the ropes and sliding out the back."TNbound wrote: And how to people feel about this setup for creeking? ...fresh from a lovely swim yesterday
it looks well suited for a jackson playboat, but not really for any boat without jacksons little pipe backbone thingy. good for them though, it might get some more kayakers to dabble in c1 playboats.

Re: Pics of Jackson c-1 outftting cooool
I think at least quick release straps over the thighs would be mandatory.... Im not comfortable searching for 3/8inch cordage with neoprene gloves on in order to eject....
Ive got a Riot Disco C-1 for play with a bulkhead and lap belt, for that belt Ive got a 3" airline seatbelt I can release that through the skirt if need be its big enough and positioned right in front of me so thats not an issue but I wouldnt creek with a lapbelt.....or in a disco.....
Someone had a jackson playboat with a custom saddle in it with the strap setup all quick release and tied together for one pull believe it was marclamenace? (sorry if i butchered your name) I think straps like that and a foamed out back instead of cords to hold that band youd be in good shape creek wise....

it looks like a good set up for playing, and it wouldn't be to hard to modify the thigh straps to quick release and then it'd be good for creeking to.

Looks alright, but it's nothing special and it certainly isn't as adaptable as the dagger saddle design...
For creeking it offers no lateral support to the hull, which as I discovered some time ago, that can allow the hull to buckle or crack from even small side-on impacts. Furthermore the strap system they've shown is definately suspect to me, nothing to hold the knees down firmly and no obvious quick release; reminicent of the velcro strap setups that get used as a compromise in race boats where weight and space are at a premium.
I personally will go on building my own outfitting just how I like it, however... This could be a very good thing for the accessability of the sport, as outfitting is one of the big barriers to pre-existing paddlers moving into canoeing...
Edit: I've been thinking about my next outfitting job for some time, and had settled on some kind of drop in plate (as per the team ETC convertions) building on my using a liquid logic rail with slices of old kayak hull attached as latteral stiffeners...
Anyway it just struck me that I could buy one of the jackson convertion kits and plastic weld it onto the plate, provding both the structure to grip the pillars I'd otherwise have had improvise from easily available plastic & weld on and the structure to hold my knees out that I'd have otherwise have made entirely from foam. Thoughts?

I looked at it and thought it wasn't a bad start - it would save a lot of foam build up, but I'd have to add back the bits they left off from the Dagger design - namely the "plate" part (sheet of plastic for under the knees) and foam back rest. "So easy to do in just a couple of hours." I guess part of the "couple of hours" is gluing down foam for the knees (and removing it when swapping to a new boat). Of course it stiffens the hull, too.TheKrikkitWars wrote:Looks alright, but it's nothing special and it certainly isn't as adaptable as the dagger saddle design...

I don't care for that back band business either - shouldn't be too hard to build a back up with foam, though.

Re: Pics of Jackson c-1 outftting cooool
I think this is a fanatasctic start! Sure no outfitting is perfect for all boaters! Clearly we all have differrent ideas about how loose/tight our outfitting should be. Sure if you don't like the backband, ect then we don't use it. Since we are all custom outfitters I am confident we can come up with something different. I think this setup is good because it is the first time in 10 or so years a major kayak manufacuter has taken any interest in c-boaters. Since the saddle/pedistal bolts securely into the boat is wonderful start and realy this is what we need. It appears thigh straps can be bolted to the pedistal or a bulked can be built around the pedistal. How the rest of the out fitting is configured is usually as varried as the personalities as the person sitting in the boat. So realy in my mind this jackson out fitting is what we need. Take it or leave it there is no one right outfitting and in this c-obaters opinion this is a great start and really that is all we need casue we can't stop ourselves from cutting foam and sniffing glue.....Its must be a canoer thing

looks to me like one could take a sheet of ABS, heat it up, drill a few holes, bolt it to their plate and adapt it to all sorts of different boats.
I wouldn't use the backband... and I'd build a bulkhead... and...
hey folks... it's a start and I applaud them for even acknowledging that C1'rs even exist... let alone to offer folks a 'ready made' product that at the very least easily works in their boats.

Fish nets are made of string. Feet are about the size of small fish. My 2Cents.

A C-2 duo could get interesting.... dynamic even.... says that model is based on the hero think thats a creek model? and at 12' you could do some damage with the right partner. worth looking into...

(start of what?)
unless your doing a jackson boat,
you'd be better off with the dagger setup.

I'm with Larry, when a new product is worse than a 19 year old product, there's something wrong.
That said I'm kindof with Craig, it's a positive step in that someone is at least thinking we exist... shame they didn't do some research into the "state of the art" within convertions (one pull releases, knee restraints?) though.
