Potential CFS is starting to fall from the sky. So I'm inside sorting pictures from previous trips and decided I would share some lucky shots with everybody.

Nice photos, Carol.
What is that boat on the John Day? I was on the river that same year, just a little before you, I think.

Our friend build this dory, the John Day was its maiden trip. We are now teasing him that his canoes will rebel......

It's based on plans similar to the dories used on the Grand Canyon. if you want more info, let me know.

That picture was taken on the Service Creek to Clarno section, we launched June 30th

Since I don't have anything pressing to do right now, you're going to get the long story!

I guess you could say that the story behind this picture is that my sweetie proposed to me on the banks of the South Fork of the Smith River during the State of Jefferson Slalom Races in 1993. It's all his fault!

It all started in August of 1994, when we did our honeymoon on the Middle Fork with Canyons Incorporated. At that time, they were the only commercial outfitter I could find that would allow us to bring our own canoe, a Dagger Dimension. Flows were low, if I remember correctly .6 feet at Boundary Creek, and since the Dimension was too big to fit in an airplane to fly in to Thomas Creek with the rest of Canyons gear, the Forest Service required that we actually had to pick up a canceled private permit to allow us to launch a day early from Boundary Creek.

After the honeymoon was over, not meant literally as after 15 happy years, paddling tandem has not resulted in a divorce!, we decided that we would do another commercial trip for a 10th anniversary.

Fast-forward to 2003. We have an opportunity to join a private trip on the Grand Canyon for 2004. Tenth anniversary trip gets postponed to 2005. The bummer is, my boss won't let me take the 3 1/2 weeks off, so my sweetie has to find himself another bow paddler to do the Canyon with. He was instructed not to come home, unless he kept a daily journal, and burn lots of film. He came home!

2005. We joined Canyons Incorporated for our 11th anniversary on the Middle Fork with friends and their Blue Hole tandem. August of 2005 the flow was 1.9 feet at the Middle Fork Lodge gauge. This time, the Forest Service didn't require us to obtain a permit for launching a day early, as as we would be going in with Canyons and their empty rafts and sweep boat. The rest of their clients would be flown into Indian Creek the following day.

This particular photo, was taken at Jackass Rapid. These two sets of legs belong to two lovely, 13-year-old young ladies, who decided to try their hand at surfing the hole. They got in sideways, quickly dipped a paddle upstream with predictable results. My camera was an Olympus with 10 optical zoom and a motor drive. Thank goodness for digital film.

If our aging Dimension will allow it, along with aging bodies, we plan to join Canyons again for our 20th anniversary.

hah! that's a great story carol. i lured my girlfriend out to idaho this spring for a middle fork trip. my van broke down up hazard creek, outside of riggins, in the pouring rain, in the middle of the night on our way to boundary. we regrouped and made it to boundary. it was a bit over 5'. a gear boat flipped at velvet and she about swam into tappan hole out of her ducky. somehow she didn't demand to catch the first plane back home after all that and now i'm back in tn and just enjoyed cooking thanksgiving dinner for her family. here's to romance on the mfs :)
