Paddling the White Salmon After Dam Removal

This is a video of the section we call the Lower Lower. It opened up after the dam was removed in 2011, turning Northwestern Lake back into a river bed and making it possible to paddle all the way to the confluence with the Columbia River. Lots of fun class 2 and 3 action and beautiful basalt canyons. One rapid, Steelhead Falls, is more serious and so are the consequences. Most of us walk it, even solid class 4 paddlers. In this video, one of the kayakers along with us runs it and shows why it has the reputation it has.

I was amazed my friend had the presence of mind to think about the paddle and grab it while fighting getting sucked into the hole. Saved my behind because it was my wife's paddle and I was the one that dropped it while portaging her boat.
