Salmonberry River

Post by milkman » Wed Nov 05, 2014 5:08 am

There's a remote coastal river in Oregon called the Salmonberry that we don't run much because of the treacherous road down to the put-in and the long shuttle, but it's a jewell when we do. This was a low water run where it was more creek than river. In 2007 a big storm caused landslides that took out sections of the railroad track along the river making some great shore sculptures. Now there's talk of making the old line a trail since the railroad has abandoned it (this wasn't the first time it washed out). Both my wife and I cracked our Preludes on this run.

Love the west coast feel, the green moss, and the fallen leaves on the ground. Lots of colour because of the multicoloured paddling equipment.

The old railway line is unique.

The blue blade OC1 paddle (H20 I assume) reminds me of the colour of those old Viking paddles signed by Hearn.

Ouch to the cracked hull.

I you're talking about the paddle being used by the guy in the L'Edge, you just solved a mystery. He recently received that paddle from a friend who used to paddle on the East Coast. The paddle has a V on it and looks like it was signed. We can't read the signature.

My wife uses a blue H2O paddle. She's the one in the orange Prelude.

Viking are wonderful paddles. Now considered a keepsake.
