Dragonskin Substitute?

Post by Don Williams »

I've always used Dragonskin for the final shaping of minicell, I tape it around a curved block of foam to make a good handle. Red Devil has stopped making it, what are people using now?

Thanks,
Don

These cheap Styrofoam sharper tools work well for outside shaping and last way longer than Dragon Skin. I still prefer DragonSkin taped to a pool noodle for inside the bulkhead leg holes. Just bought some and didn't realize they stopped making it. Probably old stock

I agree, the cheap Styrofoam sharper tools work well.

A sanding machine, the best tool I've ever gotten for finish touch of minicell! Battery powerd or wired, whatever.
And the cutting I do with a reciprocating saw or a figure saw with a foam-blade. Not as good as a band-saw, but good enough for what I need.

Thanks for the suggestions and advice, the pool noodle technique sounds very useful. I would wrap the Dragonskin around the curved end of a "U" shaped piece of minicell and then tape it. I'll keep an out for Dragonskin in hardware stores, if I find any I'll stock up.

Thanks again,
Don

I like a random orbital sander (ROS) for the final shaping. It's not the best choice for the inside curves, such as the knee holes in a bulkhead. Great for everything else though. This works ok too: http://www.stanleytools.com/default.asp ... +Cut+Blade" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
