Poll- Increase size of downloads

Post by past_pawn »

Can't download pics here, even after cropping due to the limit of 256KB.

We have size limitations to keep our hosting costs down. Until last year all images for the forum had to be hosted off site (more disk space and more images viewed mean more bandwidth needed = higher hosting cost). We're happy to say you can indeed upload images here now, but do ask to keep the images a reasonable size. For web use (not printing) the quality / size is just fine.

If you want to link higher (original in most cases) resolution images please link as in the past using the "Img" link above and linking out to where your images are stored (not on your local computer, but on the web... picasa, photo bucket, etc...).
Keep the C!

I use BB code to link pictures from Flickr. I do try to keep picture file size low so they load quicker, and to keep the picture dimensions reasonable so they fit on laptop screens, etc.

If you're a Windows user, you can use Irfanview to not only crop the image, but choose the compression. When you save the image, choose Save for Web, and use the slider to get the file size down. You'd be surprised at how little is lost at the higher compression, assuming you keep the pixel count reasonable.

A chance to see the two-of-a-kind Millbrook Big Boy, or Edsel, posted from Flickr with BB code.
