Hudson River Whitewater Derby - May 4,5 - CBoats.net armada?

Post by Sir Adam »

This is the 56th annual running of the Hudson River Whitewater Derby. Slalom races (different classes for open and decked boats, as well as novice and giant classes) Saturday, downriver (7 miles class II / III) Sunday.

Any interest in a little CBoats get together? I can provide free camping Friday and Saturday nights (rustic, but there is an outhouse and running cold water, plus very likely a propane stove cooktop if I remember to refill the propane:) ).

First weekend in May (4, 5th I believe this year). Yes, I know, same as Cheatfest.

I'd be happy to loan a long boat out to anyone that wants to try either, just let me know. If there is interest we could also have a "tour" of the "museum" and drag out a bunch of relics to paddle. I might even paddle OC instead of C this year for fun (or both on Saturday perhaps).

Slalom on Sat. is old school - reverse gates, and the course is about a mile. Winning times usually 10 min +

Sunday's downriver winning times generally around an hour, plus or minus depending on water level.

It's always a good time with lots of nice folks.

Post here or PM me if you have interest. I'll either be competing, helping run safety / communications, or both.
Keep the C!

Count me in - and I will definitely need to borrow a boat or floatable object (as you probably already guessed)! Camping in the Adirondack's is certainly a perk. :)

Sorry brother..... 10 drive vs 1 hour! Camping verses nice cabin!

But one of these days I will show up!

A month away....

If you are thinking of coming please let me know.

Would be great to out number the kayakers this year! (which wouldn't be hard... most years in the downriver the open boats outnumber the kayaks anyway!)

I'll be racing Saturday in the slalom (not sure if I will C or OC this year), then the new race after it with my daughter, and will either be racing or helping out with communications and safety on Sunday.

If you'll be there, let me know! And if you need a place to camp too...

Oh, how much I would love to head South for a Hudson Armada this weekend, but it is the Esprit season opening weekend in Canada.

TGG!
