High Falls @ Rochester, NY

Post by PAC »

Was up there this weekend for a ski comp @ Bristol and to look at the Univ. / town. So the boy and I swung by to peek at them? Looked pretty stout with the run off - from up by the University down through town.
Anyone ever run that section? If so - in what? Run the falls? Have video if they did?

Just interested... boy said he saw a line... I said I did too :o - but over at the tavern overlooking the drop!

Just curious! :-) thx

If anyone has run them, it would have been Danny Doran, he's the local sh!trunner up that way. He got the 1st D on Lower Falls of the Letchworth Gorge (same river about 70 miles south)

Here's a pic to stir some conversation:

I have not found any info about anyone running the falls. And PAC, I see the line too.

The problem with it, and it's the same problem for all the major falls on the Genesee, is that the gradient comes from the Niagara escarpment, so the geological makeup is pretty similar to Niagara. The rock is very shale-y and of crappy quality, and breaks away, leaving a lot of debris at the bottom. To put that into context, when Jesse Sharp attempted Niagara in 1990, people theorized that he hit a rock either on the way down or at the bottom.

So even though there look like some nice lines to melt down into a good plug, there is a story at the bottom of the falls as well. That and that the water level is controlled for hydro, and the rio is rarely cranking

Was that the "sneak" route or "hero" line? 8)

Depends on you're point of view I guess! For me - definitely the HERO line! But the wife might call it the "sneak" route! I'm good with either... it all worked out fine! :-)
