Hike-in rivers
Looking to do some hike in paddling ... the few rivers i am looking at paddling are southeastern united states creeking and it looks like the hike in to one is about 6 miles to thethe put-on so i figure i would make it a 2successful day trip ... so my question is
Which boat would you take? How would you carry/transport your gear up?

Re: Hike-in rivers
I have done similar hike-in/camping with my Esquif Taureau. Probably the lightest OC1 creek boat available. (Definitely much much lighter than any PE boats, OC or creeking kayaks that I know of) No pump and batterie in the boat, if you have that, take it out, way too heavy for a hike! Just brought the essentials, small tent or tarp, sleeping bag, x-tra pair of socks, 1 shirt, 1 quickdry pair of pants, food (nuts, dryfood/fruits), water filtration pump, water bottle, small flashlight, some rope, bug spray, lighters and a knife. All of that stored in 3 individual waterproof bags small enough to fit through the hatches and openings from the bulkhead and seat. Only for boating though, don't put your bags in the boat for when you hike. Keep the boat as light as possible. To hike in I put on my whitewater clothes and gear, my three waterproof bags in one flexible backpack (one that can easily be folded and stored in the boat), paddles in the boat and walk to the put-in with the boat over my head or I just pull it behind me letting it drag on dry leaf beds.
To me, the main thing is the weight of the boat, I mean, I could never ever do a 6 mile hike-in with, let's say a L'Edge... that would be torture!
Anyway, hope that helps.
