gluing minicell to polyethylene
Has anyone had any luck gluing minicell (new saddle) to polyethylene hull (Spanish Fly) using 3M's Hi-Strength 90 spray adhesive?
LePages's bond-tight contact cement doesn't seem to work that well.
Thanks

one more for weldwood contact cement (red can). you can get it a wal-mart, lowes, and homeboy depot.
I've used it outfitting a spanish fly and prelude.

I've glued knee pads and various other foam to poly with Histrength 90 but never a saddle. The foam I have glued has stuck incredibly well. Have used hi strength 90 to glue a saddle into Royalex, and it has yet to fail. The others seem to think weldwood is the answer, I'd say if you have a can of Hi Strength 90 give it a shot and see if it works, if not try the Weldwood. My thoughts

I think Weldwood, West Systems, and 3M ought to be site sponsors!

any old petroleum based contact cement will do.... read can if it's flammable it'll do... there are two kinds the other is water based, and should be avoided for obvious reasons... sanding plastic is not required; however a good cleaning is only common sense, alcohol works good, but water and elbow grease would do... use two coats on foam... let dry to touch (when in doubt - read directions)
Weldwood glue
Thanks for the advise folks. I'll try Lowes/Wal-Mart for Weldwood (red can) as Can Tire and Home Depot don't carry it.
I'll send my can of 3M '90 to Louie so he can fix his boat!

Geoff,
I use either 3M Hi-Strength 90 or Loctite Maximum Strength Headliner Adhesive (#37312).
Both are spray on contact cements, flammable, abd I have not yet had a bond fail on me, provided the surfaces are properly cleaned before bonding.

I wish I had a Twenty-Spot for every Boat, canoe, c-boat, butt-boat, you name it, that I have outfitted. Always used Hydrobond or Mondobond, but finally decided to wise up and save some $$$$$ and started using Weldwood Red and have never ever had any foam pull loose from anything. As a matter of fact, your bonding will outlast the Pyranha foam for sure. That foam the Britt's use is very poor quality...Any way my .02 worth........Barry.

3M #90 and probably Weldwood would too...
I've only used the #90 stuff so no firsthand knowledge of Weldwood-to-polyethylene...but as read, Weldwood works just like on Royalex!
..**But as mentioned, sand/roughen up the area and clean...don't leave the polyethylene slick...I think air pockets(enemy of 3M's #90) are most likely to occur with a slick surface..just my guess.

I've used Weldwood on slick, unroughed up PE and on top of old contact cement - no problem.
