North America’s top freestyle paddlers compete for a position on their national team!

On September 10 -17, 2002, all of North America’s top freestyle paddlers will be gathering on the Ottawa River for the most anticipated whitewater event of the year, The Liquid Skills Showdown.

The Liquid Skills Showdown is a weeklong series of events that will act as both the Canadian and US Team Trials, something that has never been done before. This battle of North America’s best has effectively created the ‘North American Cup’.

Following the fierce battle between the US and Canadian Women’s and Men’s Hockey teams at the Olympics this February, the North American rivalry has never been so intense. Couple this with the fact that the US and Canadian Freestyle teams have dominated the past three World Championships, and you have one of the most exciting events in Outdoor Adventure Sports history.

The Liquid Skills Showdown will be broadcast on the Outdoor Life Network in both Canada and the US, covered extensively on-line by Breathe Productions, in print by Kayak Session Magazine, and will acquire the services of the industry leading event management company, Mountain Sports International.

To make the most out of all the Ottawa river has to offer, The Liquid Skills Showdown combines 4 very different, dynamic events, including the Aquabound Horseshoe Huckfest, the Riot Garberator Get-Down, the Boatwerks.net Survival Surf, and the Kayak International Boater Cross. Together, these events will produce the 2002 Ottawa River Champions, US Champions, Canadian Champions, North American Champions and the winners of the $5000 cash purse!

Though the Showdown will be the premier ‘pro-event’ of 2002, it will also encourage the participation of recreational paddlers, as amateurs and first time competitors are provided with a fun way to try their hand at competition and to win amazing prizes like a Riot kayak, Liquid Logic kayak, Aquabound paddle, and much more. The top 10 Amateur paddlers will also earn the opportunity to go head-to-head with the pros in the Kayak International Boater Cross.

Building on the excitement of the competitions, the week will be filled with festivities off the water, including a National Paddling Film Festival Road Show, the Boatwerks.net Beach Bash, the premiering of Lunch Video Magazine’s 7th episode, and much more.

A good portion of the proceeds from the Liquid Skills Showdown are going to the US and Canadian Freestyle teams, to help our paddlers in their quest for world gold.
