Looking to buy: Canoe for large paddler

Post by Tedderac »

I am a big guy, 6'4" 230 lbs, looking for a longer (12'-14') whitewater canoe. Preferable solo or outfitted with a triple saddle. Some canoes I would be interested in: Mohawk XL 13, Bell Prodigy X, Dagger Caption, Mad River Caption, Mad River Outrage X, Old Town H2Pro, etc. Please email at tedderac (at) gmail.com. Located in Southeastern United States. Willing to travel if the boat looks great and the price is right. Thanks.

Sunburst is certainly one of the longer "old school" solo boats but it is limiting with what it can do. I had one for years and really enjoyed it but it was not a boat for the bigger, more technical rivers. So, what do you want to do with the boat? Sunburst would be a good all-round boat, same as your other choices. XL-14 puts you back up into the longer boat category, same for the Whitesell Pyranha. If you want to consider a more serious whitewater big boat that is also versatile, see if you can find a Caption or even the older Caper.

Not to muddy the waters for you, but I guess I did.

Really interested in a Caption; tell me about them. How much are you looking to sell for?

still have the Whitesell Pyranhas (2) for sale. One in mint condition, one in good condition. Great boat for a big guy. I learned to paddle on an XL-13. Wore that boat out and moved to the Whitesell. Never looked back. IMHO, waaaayyyy better than an XL-13.
