The Cascade is like OCs in that the decks don't go under as easily as many C1s do. It's also fairly soft chined. But it does carve pretty well. I paddle mine the same as I paddled my Outrage. Atoms and Slashers and I expect slalom C1's take advantage of sharper edges and low volume sterns. Those dem...

I'm not the strongest paddler but I have had the good fortune to get some instruction from Tom Foster and from Andrew Westwood. Both were teaching us to use the forward and cross forward as much as possible. Andrew's 2x4 really helped me build on the strokes I'd learned from Tom. IMO if I was teachi...

Re: Plastic welder in New England?

Anybody know some one in the New England area that does plastic welding? The closer to Boston the better. I've got two cracks in the cockpit room of my Dagger Cascade. Just read a very helpful thread titled "Crack repair on Dagger Cascade?" and want to follow their advice and have someone experienc...

Red boats are faster.

They also make the best photos.

Other than that who cares?

I don't know the status on Hemlock but my understanding is that Colden Canoe will be building some of the old Curtis models. The DragonFly first I think.

Don't forget trains.
We had a couple killed years ago while scouting from a train trestle. Hard to hear the train over the river and those suckers move pretty quick away from road crossings.
Even though most everyone knows where it happened I still see folks up there on the trestle from time to time.

I've seen it on cable twice.
The opening footage is absolutely gorgeous. A very good paddler floating the Kern river I think in a Hahn C1.
Once they start talking it's awful but yeah, the paddling chase scene near the end is pretty stupid funny and the bad guys paddle black kayaks.

And to TommyC1, I've always felt the solstice/storm is a miserable kayak, I can imagine how much fun it wasn't as a C1... The Solstice was a good first kayak for me. Beamy(23") and stable with pretty good cruising speed. But it did not respond to leans. It tended to broach in following seas and get...

It looked like it had hardly been paddled but had been dropped and the rudder is busted off. It's a Sawyer and appears to be the "expedition" model here : http://www.superiorcanoes.com/solocanoes.html Maybe the Sawyer Loon? http://home.comcast.net/~mcclainmark/mmcbs/loon.html That's an earlier Verl...

Interesting historical perspective. When I was thinking about it I guess I had envisioned a pedestal that you could set up with a rudder and all, manipulating the footpegs and hooking them up to a rudder. Maybe a project for the person that has run out of projects. Like gas pedals mounted where foo...

Jim's boats do pay a high price.
That's why he keeps needing new ones.
I'm just wishing it was a little closer to Boston.

I'll always remember my first time in my first solo which was a Gyramax. I paddled up the quiet Assabet, entered the slow current, took my paddle out of the water, and promptly swam. That boat was nothing like my Explorer! First off let me apologize if you know this stuff already. IMO the Gyramax ma...
