Sorry got no vid. Maybe I can describe it better. Freight Train starts with a few smaller holes and waves leading into the first drop. From there the water was very turbulent and I was having trouble keeping the boat pointed where I wanted to go. The first drop has a large rock on river right and a ...

Holding your line in heavier water?

I (Outrage OC1) paddled the Contoocook http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1167/ yesterday with Patrick O'Hanlon(Nitro OC1) and some local kayakers. It was a hair over 8' which is 6" higher than I've run it before. It was noticably faster. Pat and I scouted S Turn and Freight T...

Ya know red boats are faster.

But I never chose a boat by it's color.

Like paddling a referigerator box.
I'm told that they'll turn if you put them on thier sides.
Didn't work for me but I didn't waste too much time trying.
Lots of better boats out there.

In order of my preference.
Dagger/ Mad River Caption or MR ME or Mohawk Probe 14 or a Dagger Caper for solo/ tandem whitewater.

A few of things to note. 1. When Marc Ornstein is not teaching or competing, building the sweetest paddles you never want to abuse on whitewater, or designing and building some of the nicest quiet water canoes you'll ever see (that ain't no Discovery kids), he's paddling a Viper 11. 2. The free styl...

Other than the Deerfield everything is dependent on rain. If it rains there's the Quabog, the Millers, the Farmington, the Ashuelot, the Westfields and a bunch of creeks. The Northeast Paddlers Message Board is likely the best place to ask. Lots of folks in that area on that board. http://www.npmb.c...

I gotta say DO NOT use a bench seat in class III or higher. The potential for getting your legs trapped under the bench is not worth any extra comfort you might find.
Been there, done that. Nothing but lucky I'm here to tell it.

Personally I thought the Nitro was like paddling a beach ball. Can't say I'm inclined to give it a second chance though better paddlers than me seem to love it. The Detonator is a much better hull IMO. Easily controlled and a bit quicker. Lighter too. I doubt it will be nearly as dry. The Spark is a...

A forward stroke is as good as a brace.

That seems especialy true on my offside.

An onside righting pry has worked for me when my blade was all ready there. Can't remember it being succsessful otherwise.

Read through this thread. Lots of good advise http://www.cboats.net/cforum/viewtopic.php?t=7963271&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=rescue+vest+smurf&start=0 Thanks Smurf. I missed that before. Lots to think about before going to the rescue vest. My Slasher came with a cam cleat mounted right beh...

I almost died from being clipped onto a boat with a proper safety vest and pigtail. I won't do that again, and like what was said above, flipping it over and bulldozing is the way to go IMHO. Since I'm seriously considering a proper safety vest and pigtail would you mind telling more about what wen...

An Eventful Upper Millers Run

We got plenty of rescue and boat wrangling practice yesterday including from a couple of young guys who thought that rec kayaks with no skirts or flotation were OK. I felt bad for the swimmers but found the practice useful and instructive. Open boaters, if you are going to put painters on your boat,...

I like the Atom for it's relative stability compared to a Slasher and speed and precision compared to a Cascade. I wish it had more volume in the stern so that it came out of holes upright. Yeah a better paddler would help that as well but... :o The Fink is one fugly hull. That yellow munge plastic ...
