Re: Royalex Replacement?
I'm most amazed with how flat that boat landed after freefalling that distance.

Re: Choosing a boat to convert
Do you know which one is most stable to you? I have known the Inazone and Godzilla to be successfully used as c-1s. I've paddled a Godzilla c-1 and really liked it. But, it was not what I would call a flat-sitting "stable" boat in that it always wanted to go toward either side when floating along. C...

Ditto to what JohnD posted. Wayner has been a great open boat instructor and packs a fantastic sense of humor too.

I wanna see video of you in your Zealot demonstrating how incorrect your forward stroke is.

Hey, Jim. Here is a link to the slalom forward stroke from our own site. It also includes additional links to Davey Hearn which has a link to the British slalom site:

Re: Slalom boat basics?
The forward stroke in a slalom canoe can probably be considered the most frustrating part of moving the boat forward. It'll take lots of practicing and trial and error to find what works for you. At some point, all the drills you practice will become automatic and you'll find moving the canoe straig...

I didn't watch the video, but if you want ideas how to paddle your canoe better, check out "Path of the Paddle" by Bill Mason:

He used a lot of draws and scull to maneuver and slide the canoe around where he wanted it.

Re: Zealot spray skirt
Yep to EZ and yep to "old and in the way". Today's standard slalom cockpits are significantly larger than previous models. The Zealot has a slightly larger opening than the "standard" size of the older models, but not big enough for Dagger Atom-sized skirts. Give Davey and Jennifer a holler.

You talked to an athlete's mother!? I would have loved hanging around and listen to you explain yourself out of whatever you "innocently" said. I have communicated a lot with athletes' parents for many years and I have a feeling I know what the general context was about. I got to talk to Jon L...
