yukoner and the L'edge

... for 4 days, hope i did not carve out too much of the foam. Got to paddle the L'edge on the Lower Madawaska- crazy low and the Ottawa. I paddled a Solito on the ottawa the day before. First run on the lower mad I was very happy with the hull but not the outfitting, was not going to paddle it again, ...

I'm thinking the Zephyr will be closer as well. The Detonator will be slow compared to a Viper. The Solito is more like a shortened Ocoee. Fun boat, but you might be a little big for it.

which esquif solo is comparable to Viper 11 or 12

... on paddling not getting used a new boat. The water is already way different than what we have up north. There is also an Option of an Evergreen Solito. I am 6 ft and 200lbs. I dont want a short boat like the Taureau, i am still figuring mine out, seems like it likes a very specific water type. ...

... a Zoom or Prelude not being able to handle big water. I've seen plenty of people running some pretty big stuff in boats like the Zoom, Prelude, Solito, etc. Ditto on that. The big advantage of the nitro would be to me luggage capacity. You can do overnights easily in a nitro that's why so many ...

I wouldn't worry about a Zoom or Prelude not being able to handle big water. I've seen plenty of people running some pretty big stuff in boats like the Zoom, Prelude, Solito, etc.

I think boats like the Prelude and Solito are made for lighter paddlers--200 pounds and under. The heavier you are, the more the boat sinks in the water and you lose speed, spin and stability. If I was a bigger dude, I'd probably paddle an Ocoee.

Either one

Hey Big Spenser,

I am 6'3 200lbs and both a Solito and Prelude feel fine for my size and weight. For durability and creeky paddling Prelude will last much longer.

Milkman,
In general, any opinion on which boat, Solito or Prelude, can handle the heavier(slightly) paddler better...?
Thanks,

Without paddling any of the three as yet: the Viper11, Prelude, and L'Edge.... 8)
A little too heavy for a Solito, enjoyed paddling the purple Ocoee.

I've been paddling a Prelude nearly every weekend for the last year. Before that I paddled a Phantom and Solito, but I have hardly touched either of these boats since I got the Prelude. I have the seat at 8" high and can only speak from the experience of a 5'11" 170-pound guy. ...

Probe 11 is a good suggestion. Might be a little faster than a Detonator, and is just as stable.

Solito is a boat with hard chines and is going to be edgier than the Detonator. It's a better boat for a more experienced paddler.

Looking for a used detonator or similar (suggestions?

... All 3 of us in my family seem to be drawn to the detonator over the other open canoes we use. We love the dryness and stability. The evergreen solito seems to be comparable by what I've read. We aren't big time paddlers but love the fun of running class II-III rivers and Easy paddling. Any ...
