... me from doing so. I let the resin gel until it is "green" and then trim it back to its final edge with a sharpended linoleum knife or a utility (razor) knife. It is a little tricky knowing when the layup has gelled just the right amount - too soon and the layup will separate when you try to cut, ...

I once hear that the best way to trim the neck gaskets on your drysuit is to use a sharp razor blade and to get your buddy to do it for you while you have it on. :(

Thanks for all the tips. I cut one ring off last night using a razor blade while the gasket was slightly stretched over a plastic bottle. If I have to cut more the only thing I will do different is use a little larger diameter bottle so the gasket is stretched a little more. Thanks again.

My drysuit is a Kokatat and the neck gasket has rings marked all the way around. Those of you that cut the gasket, how do you cut it? I would think you could stretch it slightly around a bottle or can and use a razor knife or is it better to use scissors and cut one ring at a time?

... inch wave, run Niagra Falls blindfolded and backwards... and oh... it'd weigh four lbs. and you could run it down a hundred foot slide made from razor blades in the dark while drinking a beer.

For the paddle portion i just mark the top of the shaft with the bit so i know how much to shave down, then i shave it with a utility razor till it just barely fits. http://www.lowes.com:80/pd_170973-281-88810BX_4294857551+4294867435_4294937087_?productId=1207035&Ns=p_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity_sold|1&pl=1¤tURL=%2Fpl_Spade_4294857551%2B4294867435_4294937087_%3FNs%3Dp_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr%7C0%7C%7Cp_product_quantity_sold%7C1&facetInfo=Spade ...

... It is mostly cosmetic, but the hull edge on a composite canoe (which is typically much less thick at the gunwale than a Royalex boat) can be razor sharp if not sanded and finished very smooth. So it may be that rabbeting the gunwales and covering up a less carefully finished hull edge is ...

... form that matches my neck...again from the old kayak center pillar cut down with a free hacksaw blade. I put the gasket on there and take a NEW razor...not a utility knife....a razor with one side blunted edge. Like for a small hand razor scraper to take paint off a window. in a smooth motion ...

... that if you do cut the gasket, a good way to do it is to minimally stretch the gasket out over a plastic 2-liter soda bottle and use a very sharp razor blade. Yup, thats the way to go. One ringat a time. I did it with a drytop I got. It slides right on now. Not loose, not too tight, just right. ...

Trim

I have always trimmed mine to get comfortable. Very careful, one ring at a time, brand new razor with the gasket lightly stretched out on a coffee can. I try for one continuous cut around the can. Try it on, cut another ring if you still turn blue. You can always fill ...

If you can time it correctly, you can use a razor-knife to trim it just before it completely sets up. I think The Boat Builder's Manual has a good section on the process. What I did with my C1 ...

da Razor

I confess I've drooled all over my screen since the pix of the Razor hit the home page. Looks like a good boat, but what would I know -- I'm still paddling a Grumman with truck tubes for flotation. (BTW, still a great boat for running over gerbils in eddies!) ...

Razor

The prototype is still out there, being paddled. I had to move a couple time, job related, and lacked the free time to finish the mold and get it in production. Now I'm working on raising my 11-months old twin boys so still too busy for now to get back to that project but it still in the plans. A 13...
