Re: A serious question...
I think you’ve answered your question. The key is how dedicated you are to perfecting your paddling. If you want to commit the time to C-1ing you’ll stick with it. If not, you can run rapids and play with about a third less effort in a kayak. I find practice is needed much more in a C-1 than an open...

Re: OC2 failure to flip
I assume you mean tandem hangs up with the gunnels perpendicular to the water. You have to have the "S" word that shall remain unspoken to not even be able to dip the gunnel. It’s the combination of rocker and floatation in the ends that causes canoes to not go over completely immediately. Less or n...

Mohawk’s triple saddle is the simplest, but it depends on the boat being symmetrical since the bow and stern swap when changing. The Mohawk triple places the paddlers closer which gives better performance and reduces the effect of paddler weight on trim. The Mohawk Probe is the only symmetrical tand...

Kraig used his Ledge this past weekend from Stevens Gulch down except for Pineview Falls and seemed to have fun. I paddled lower Rustic on Monday and enjoyed the rapids more than those below the Narrows except for Pineview. Less than 3' and the Rustics look to get bony in places. The 99 MP ledge hol...

I'm not a frequent Poudre paddler, but locals say there's poor correlation between the online gage and the boater's gage. My old CRC has 2' as 330 CFS and 3' as 650 CFS. The boater's gage is reported here: http://www.poudrerockreport.com/ The online gage is here: http://www.dwr.state.co.us/SurfaceWa...

Roy told me last week that he was on his way home. Spent four days this past week paddling in the Poudre Canyon. Flow is slowly dropping, but afternoon rains are in the forecast and it caused a rise last week. Boated Clear Creek into Idaho Springs and the Numbers on my way back south. Clear Creek wo...

The location of the accident was 10 miles north of Silverthorne. The rapids start after Boulder Creek enters and continue with almost no breaks for the next two miles. I paddled the run the day after the accident and the waves were big with a few nasty holes. He was paddling alone in a kayak on the ...

Great talking to old friends and meeting new folks. Thanks to my three OC2 partners, all people I hadn’t met before. There were 51 competitors. It’d been ten years since I’d gone to Nationals, but the number of women paddlers in Salida impressed me. Wisconsin looked to have the most boaters from any...

FIBArk flow was 3600 CFS. The outlook for Nationals is for under 2500, see:

It'll still be a fast current. Would anyone want to race tandem with me?
