Re: PFD's ...2018...

You might check out the Kokatat Maximus, or Maximus Prime. I got one, its very comfortable, lots of float, I really like it for river trips. Its a little bulky in the chest, so I'll be using my old vest for racing as the Maximus rubs on my shaft arm when I go for an extreme cross-bow stroke (which y...

Re: Kayak conversions—and catching up!

Funny, I'm in Humboldt County these days, not terribly far from Eugene, and I'd been trying to find someone to take my old Dagger Cascade off my hands for years...with no success..I finally gave it to a young guy I trained to paddle OC-1...you know, just in case he wanted it...and mostly to get it o...

Re: Documenting the Shasta River Canyon

My apologies!

I didn't log into cboats even one time in the last couple weeks, so I didn't see your message. Are you still in the area?

Re: Join MT Canoes at the Upper Clackamas Whitewater Festiva

Is there a pre-registration requirement? I ask because I won't be sure if I'll have time until the last minute.

Re: Old Town Pathfinder Canoe

Had a couple Pathfinders in the school fleet, to my knowledge, all Pathfinders were Royalex. To my imperfect recollection, Old Town didn't really do cross-material models. Mad River did Explorers in a whole quiver full of different materials but Old Town used different molds and materials even if th...

Re: decking out OC

If you're talking about installing actual watertight compartments as the decks of your OC-1 you'll need to start with a lightweight composite boat, and by the time you're done with everything (decks/hatches/supports for decks and hatches/seals) you'll have probably made it heavier than a plastic boa...

Documenting the Shasta River Canyon

Running the Shasta River Canyon There are accounts of adventures in this world finished by people of exceptional skill and vision, treks of harrowing danger and triumphant successes. Adventures that could only be conquered by a select few, and pressing said few mightily. This is not one of those acc...

Re: Repost, 18 foot Cedar Strip refinish questions/help

Thanks for the help! I'll give that a try, and I'll keep posting updates as I move along. It IS a pretty boat...I wasn't sure exactly what it was going to start looking like when I started because it was in such a state of disrepair...but It's really starting to look nice! I can't wait to get it out...

Re: Repost, 18 foot Cedar Strip refinish questions/help

Also, the biggest hurdle I have in regards to doing an epoxy/dust mix is that the boat is cedar AND redwood strips. I'd need some way to get ONLY redwood dust while sanding for some spots and only cedar for others, as there is a vast color difference. Also beyond my capabilities as a wood-worker, lol

Re: Repost, 18 foot Cedar Strip refinish questions/help

Yes, I am certainly going to glass back over the whole thing. I'm just trying to figure out how much time I want to invest in the project vs. what I'll get out of it. Replacing the strips sounds like a good idea...but possibly an idea beyond my capabilities as a wood-worker. Need to sleep on that one.

Repost, 18 foot Cedar Strip refinish questions/help

I accidentally posted this in Boats for Sale section. Reposting here where it belongs. So, I have too many projects. This is a cool story though, I just need some help with the ending. What do you do when you are looking for a flat-water canoe and you come across an 18 ft cedar-redwood strip boat on...

18 foot custom cedar-strip refinish questions

So, I have too many projects. This is a cool story though, I just need some help with the ending. What do you do when you are looking for a flat-water canoe and you come across an 18 ft cedar-redwood strip boat on Craigslist? You click on it. What do you do when you see that the glass has delaminate...

Re: Twister Vs. Edge Thoughts from the Experts

Thank you, To everyone who took the time to reply. Its funny, I was actually thinking just the other day that someone outght to put another foot or so of boat into an Ocoee design...quite an interesting idea.
