I'm pretty sure that you can remove the upper part of the wall behind the saddle. But it surely would be a good idea to put the cutted part it back in and fix it after loading (maybe with some plastic parts and knurles screws) to achieve the top / bottom strength as wendy mentioned. If done so, you ...

I bought a boat in the States and had it shipped to Toronto.
Used it in Canada for two weeks and took it home with me to Germany (including a bill of sales for a low priced used boat to avoid to pay too much tax).
But the guys at customs didn't ask and I forgot...

That's no recommendation...

I'm using a salve called Traumeel which is homeopathic, cheap and, as far as I know, available on your side of the pool, too.
Used one week min. twice a day eliminates my problem, maybe yours too.

What about using in acetone dissolved polyvinyl chloride (PVC)? Should be the same Material as the outer layer of the boat and it is more UV stable, isn't it? I'm going to try to dissolve some PVC plastic film today and use it as soon as it's ready. I'm curious if it'll work. Florian update: Tried ...

It is, but not too big :-). I'm sure you can guess what it looked like 20 seconds later

Started dissolving the PVS yesterday. It looks like it'll take a few days.

I was at Robson this weekend and watched some Brooks 16, flatwater tandems made of the same material. The boats I saw were prototypes and have been rented for two years in the Bavarian Woods, which is quarz and pretty abrasive. I couldn't see any bigger damages on the boats and they surely have not ...
