What are people's thoughts on the Rocker series? I rarely see them mentioned when people talk about creek boats. I've seen one on a car once, the Mega Rocker is HUGE! Any ideas?

C-1's are, in many people's opinion, easier to roll even than kayaks, but you never know how your roll classes will go... If you're willing to take the risk of flipping often initially, then look for an edgy boat. Otherwise, go for more forgiving. I think a good in between point is the LL Remix, man...

There are a lot of things I enjoy about the Zoom... it feels very fast for it's size. It ferries okay and carves in and out of eddies very snappily. It feels like it's completely under the paddler's control (if control means "you can lean/possibly tip it effortlessly")... all of this is overshadowed...

The Esquif Nitro paddles roughly like a T-34 tank. It's big, slow, and impossible to tip over. However, the chines can not only get slowly worn but sort of gouged... the sharp edges just don't last that long.

I'll have to agree with Larry... given a choice between a complex snowboard ratchet mechanism that seems to be strong or a straightforward cam buckle and thick webbing, I'd take the simpler system. Simpler = less likely to break or malfunction, regardless of how beefy the bindings appear to be at fi...

If I was being pushed back and undid my thigh straps I would probably fall out... if I undid my belt I would definitely fall out. I think that's pretty much the deal with most outfitting... is a stern pin/paddler forced to the back deck more dangerous simply because it can be impossible for them to ...

A boof is a stroke (plus a body motion) used to bring the bow of your boat pointing upward (or at least higher than it was). This stops you from just "penciling" in vertically off a drop, and also helps you ride over holes rather than punch through them.

Do you have an open boat roll? There are boats, like the Atom that surf and carve in and out of eddies brilliantly... the only issue is that they can be very "twitchy". A boat can feel really capable-- appear stable, make sharp eddy turns, have good hull speed-- and it will still flip right when you...

I changed the thigh straps over so that they now fully separate when the fastex buckles are released. In a moment of resourcefulness (well... technically, I was just out of webbing) I figured that the old thigh straps with their overlapping velcro could be used as a lapbelt. I secured them (facing a...

I take it I'm not the only one who finds the Atom to be an absolute pain to roll?

The skirt i have for mine says "Perception Harmony C-1" on it... don't think that's manufactured anymore, it came used with the boat. Some people get them made custom for C-1's, it doesn't cost a ton more than a new standard skirt-- I think about $115 from MountainSurf. hades, you could pay more tha...

I'll definitely be getting quick releases, the buckles should be a temporary thing (also, I won't be out on whitewater probably until spring so the fastex won't be in use on the river ever, possibly)... I'll look at options for the foam. Up north here sometimes you can be in a bathing suit (shorts) ...

I have similar blocks to the side of my knees, but I don't like them to be moving up and down as much as they do with the thigh straps all the way towards the crotch... I guess it's just a matter of personal preference though. I found today that on dry land it's easy to get out of the boat without l...

I actually feel like I may want to use the furthest (towards the knees) attachment if I am using the lap belt. The closer the attachment is, the better it holds me on the saddle (and therefore in the boat), BUT my knees get less and less secure the closer the straps get. While you can't fall out of ...

I can easily work my way out of the thigh straps without loosening them at all... this might not be the case if I was being pushed forward into the boat in a pin situation, but on land or in the water it's never a problem for me to just scoot backwards and then stand right up out of the thigh straps...
