Yeah... if you have a kayak with float bags, just take them out and use them in the C-1 for the day. The Atom is very stable when the edges aren't coming into play-- if you concentrate on always leaning so the flat bottom of your boat is facing the oncoming current instead of the side of the boat, i...

I haven't paddled it, but I get the impression from what others say about it (and the overall appearance of the design) that the fink is sort of between the two Daggers... not as much edge as the Atom, has more volume in helpful places than the Atom does so it doesn't dive the same way. But, not qui...

Hm... I have access to a Tsunami 140... I might try doing some sort of reversible conversion on it (I can't permanently do anything to it or the outfitting that would prevent it from being converted back to a kayak). Flat-ish water doesn't require totally bombproof outfitting (if nothing else you wo...

I'd always wondered about converting a sea kayak... I'd like to get out C-1ing more often but with the most convenient body of water for me by far being a lake, paddling regularly feels like a horrible slog. Is the speed/efficiency pretty good compared to a similar kayak-- if you were out with other...

I run my Gyramax airbags in my Atom... the front deck of the Atom is much shorter than the back deck, so unfortunately I can only fit them in the back of the boat, nothing in the front. I like to think that since most kayaks have no flotation in the front (the paddler's legs are there), this should ...

To get an idea of the stability try to find a way to kneel in it without fully converting it. I don't know if this is possible with the way it's outfitted, but you might be able to take the seat out without any permanent changes, so it's reversible, then just toss a block of something in the bottom ...

I use a lapbelt and thigh straps in my Atom, but I don't think the lapbelt would be appropriate to put in a universal saddle, it can be added later depending on what the user is paddling and how comfortable they are with it. I don't think giving someone a lapbelt by default as if it were always safe...

Right handed, paddle on the right side... I definitely see how the "finesse" hand on the T grip could be better. But, my right hand on the paddle shaft helps reach across the bow for cross strokes and gives me a LOT more power in my brace/roll. If I could learn how to roll while paddling on the left...

The Spark is a fun boat, and the stability isn't too bad... but I wouldn't call it stable.

I've never paddled a detonator, but I've heard the Nitro is very similar. It's a bit bigger, and it's not my favorite boat because it is so big feeling and sluggish... however, it fits the "stable" bill well. Check it out too.

Any thoughts on using this to reinforce the most abused areas of a plastic boat to give them some stiffness/thickness before they crack? Will this even adhere to plastic (a lot of things appear not to)? My Atom (which was relatively non-abused when I got it, and still doesn't have a ton of use on it...

I spent a few days in a Zoom, and I really loved its incredible speed, how easy it was to get on edge, and how amazingly well it carved. The lack of stability was extremely frustrating, however... if I could go back to that boat knowing how to roll, I could get a better idea of what I could push it ...

I've actually used that kind of boat... they're very stable with a half ton of gear on the top! You're strapped down to a saddle OC-1 style, so you get the stability of a raft (plus some) but you're not going to get ejected. These people seem to have found the limit of those boats though!

42" should be plenty deep. Sure, your paddle is probably longer than that, but in reality in a real roll situation you'll rarely have the luxury of a river even that deep... a roll with a good tuck and with the paddle kept parallel with the surface of the water should be able to be performed in very...
